92 Probe GL sputtering and lost power

It started burning oil pretty bad..smoking when I added oil. No leak though. I was going to give it a tuneup but then it started sputtering while driving. Under hood it sounded fine, but from the tailpipe it was spitting occasionally and jerking while driving. Thought it just needed that tuneup, but went to drive it across town, it lost power while driving..couldn't go over second shift, kicking and bucking the whole time. If I came to a stop, it wanted to kick off. Then it just died while driving it. Smoke came pouring in from the air vents and under the hood. Couldn't locate the source. Once it cooled off, I drove it home..slowly and not trying to come to any complete stops.

Any ideas? It will drive but not over second gear, loses power, especially up hills (have to do them in first) and still spits and sputters out the tailpipe. I don't know where to even begin!

I had the same problems with my '96 SE minus the oil burning. My car has two and I'm not sure how many your's has, but check the oxygen sensor(s). I changed the plugs and wires before that (thinking that was the problem), but it kept happening. One of my friends has had the same problem as well. Hope that helps.
