i just purchased a 2001 zx2. how do you remove the stock panel that covers the radio and climate controls. do you just pry on it or is there a special tool that goes in the four little holes and pops it off? i don't want to break anything if i have to put the old panel back on.

hey man,

its no problem just get yourself a metal cloths hanger can cut out enough of it to make two u's or if you would rather think of them as c's that's fine. ford is going to tell you that you have to buy this 8 dollar special tool or whatever but all it is, is a couple pieces of round metal just like a cloths hanger bent in the shape of a you. put them in the four holes there and it will push in these metal clips that hold in that whole pastic piece. sort of the way an after market deck is held to the metal sleeve that you get with it. then your home free. but you'll have to get the after market face adapter to take an after market deck anyway so i wouldn't worry to much about breaking the old one. just make sure that you keep all the controls and knobs so that you can transfer them over to the new kit.
good luck with it, jnorth24

Walmart sells the tool for about $3- if you want to look at it or purchase.
