pcm tunes

I know there has been alot of posts about custom tunes on this and other forums, but I'm getting close to deciding on what to do with my 2500HD 6.0. It sounds like the programmers are a waste in searching for better performance so I'm leaning towards a Nelson custom tune. However, this pick-up only has 7000 miles on it and I want it to last a while. I'm hesitant to "mess" with the pcm for fear of future problems and long term reliability. I'm confused about the TM. I understand if you take it out it will sure help, but if you're towing heavy loads (10-12,000#'s) wouldn't you want all the TM to protect the tranny? It would seem logical the more TM you take out of the tranny the harder it is on the drivetrain, but maybe I'm way off. I just don't want to get 80-100,000 on this and have the tranny go up in smoke. Why would GM severely "detune" these pick-ups if it doesn't cause any problems? I would think that better mileage and more useable power would be a huge selling point for a small block HD truck. I'd like to know if anybody has a pick-up that lets say has racked up 100,000 miles with a custom tune. I only pull a stock trailer once in while, but when I do it has in excess of 12,000#'s in it, the rest of the time is mostly driving around the farm where I'd like to get a little bit better mileage than 9-10.

You need to call and talk to allen nelson

if you have a HD, you can remove all of the TM and never have a problem.
