Well the air compressor finally bit the dust on my 95 town car. Have any of you converted to springs? If so how hard was it? i was looking at the oreillys auto part website and saw the suspension conversion coil kit PN: TC90-R for 150 something. Anyone ordered that kit? and is there any welding involved?

The conversion kits I've heard feedback on are very simple to install.
I suppose this would apply to any kit put together by a reputable manufacturer.
I can't speak from direct experience, nor can I comment on the TC90-R.
Have you 'searched' this forum for 'conversion' or whatever relevant keywords?
I know there's lots of threads herein on the subject.

mostwanted, why go to springs when a pump is only about 150.00 from arnott or suncore. and not that big a deal to install yourself.
both of them are in florida. just google "air springs". arnott even has an installation manual on line you can print out.
O BUY THE WAY, THEY BOTH SELL REAR SPRINGS TOO. and the info on how to install. mike

It is not worth it to convert to springs. The ride is not the same, and you will lose the load leveling feature. If you go to strutmasters.com you can get a new compressor for $145, and they will give you directions on how to install the compressor, and they are available for questions 16 hours a day. They also have conversion kits, but I am telling you from experience, the ride will never be the same. I had a 1995 Continental, in which all four wheels use air suspension. You will lose the Lincoln appeal.

Hey home-y / pmpmrs... :)
You can't compare the Conti to the TC :nono: You're talking about four wheel air springs, compared to just two in the TC.
I can't say what the extent of the OP's problem is, but I think we can assume (ass-U-me) that the compressor fried trying to keep leaking springs inflated.
If this assumption is correct, the OP will need several other components to complete the repair. In most cases, a "cheapo" & "I dont want to do this ever again" attitude is what makes the conversions more desireable.
That being said, I've read plenty of posts where Town Car conversions offered nice rides. Granted, they DO lose the leveling capabilities, and the ability to carry heavy loads w/o dragging their ass on the floor....
I can't ever goto coils for that reason alone.
Some people are remorseful after the conversion, stating that their TC isn't 100% TC anymore, but they still say the ride is nice. Maybe their just trying to convince themselves they did the right thing :)

When I was comparing the Continental to the Towncar, I was just saying I converted my Continental, but I wished I would have never made that decision. He should do a detailed search to find out it was defnitely the compressor that when bad. When my pump no longer turned on, I thought it was the compressor as well, but it turned out to be the control module in the trunk. As I have mentioned before, please do a detailed search by looking for leaks in the air bags in the rear, checking the fuses, you can do this by taking a 12 volt power source, and connecting it directly to the compressor.

when my compressor bit the dust on my town car i replaced it and it cost me about $200. however i take this car to the shore many time and when loaded up with suitcases and people, the leveler really pays off well. but converting to air springs it totally up to you. my 92 crown victoria didn't have the load-leveling suspension and it still road very nice. but i have to agree with towncar, when i loaded the trunk up, that rear end really did sag to the point that i needed more air in my rear tires.

Hey y'all just thought i'd drop by and let you know how the springs are. There are no cons when it comes to the springs just pluses i had a trunk full of stuff and 7 people including myself and the car held up better than it did with the air springs! And i took it down a bad pot hole filled road and it took it pretty well. i just cant think of any bad things to say about them they are great i recomend them to anyone thinking of replacing their suspension now i need new shocks i'm gonna go when sears has a special going they complained 4 years ago when i took it in i bet they are gonna do it again.

AF, is that 18 mpg for real ??? my 95 TC gets 25+ on a regular basis. k+n air filter, bosh +4 platinum plugs,2 1/2 inch cat back duals and 235 x 75 radials all round. computer says 25.4 average, but the tires are lying to it. add 7% more due to larger dia. so... 25.4 x 107% = 27.2 mpg. and that is at 65 cruising speed back and forth to denver, course the air is thinner up here, less wind resistance ??? mike

These name brand automotive centers do not like working on cars with aftermarket springs on them. They want to protect themselves from a lawsuit if something were to go wrong. The best place to take your car is gas station mechanic and have him put the shocks on. Better yet why don't you take it to the place that put your springs on, they should be abled to do it as well.
That is good you liked your spring conversion, because I was very disappointed when I converted my Continental to springs. The ride was not the same maybe it was because the Continental has four wheel air springs. Now I have a 1996 Town Car, but I vow to never have to convert my Town Car.

most wanted, do the K & N, bosh +4's and throw a set of 235 x75's on the back. provides a nice "rake". forget the wires, unless you are noticing a "short" . too much money for very little return. let us know mpg after these mods. mike
P S . how do you post pic's here ? like to show u mine.
