I have a 1999 Monte Carlo LS with a 3.1 L engine. I recently had the check engine light come on and I performed a diagnostics scan and had a P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance code appear. I am not certain as how to repair this. The car runs great despite the check engine light being on. I am going to replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires as they are overdue with 86,000 miles on the car. I am also considering replacing the ignition coils, does this sound logical? Any other advice or input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

***Update***
As I stated earlier my 1999 Monte Carlo check engine soon light came on and I scanned the car and received the code P0341 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. I didn't know if it was the actual sensor or something tripping the sensor that was causing the problem. I spoke w/ my neighbor who does some repair work as a retiree. He had a 3.1 L engine pulled from a car he was working on and no longer needed. He told me to grab the camshaft position sensor off that engine first and try it before I spent any money. I pulled the camshaft position sensor out of my block and replaced it with the one in the block with the pulled engine. As luck would have it that did the trick. The check engine soon light has been off for more than a week now. I will post if anything else occurs.

Jon

I just had this problem on my '98. The light cleared itself later that day.
P0341 was still in the computer and I cleared that. If it comes back, is it hard to get to and where is it located?
Thanks, Radio2

I just had this problem today, August 1, 2008. The Camshaft Position Sensor needs to be replaced. I have a 98, 3.1L engine. The part cost me $37 at a parts store and the part took 30 minutes to replace. It's located underneath the alternator and is behind the power steering pump. You have to take off the belt to get to it, but it shouldn't be too much trouble.
I noticed that the vehicle was running a little rougher than normal, but nothing too dramatic. Then as I was driving down a city street, the Service Engine Light came on out of the blue. Same code was given and was fixed within 40 minutes. Hope this helps.

Welcome to AF pitstop- !
Thanks for the tip(s) but Please look at the post dates before posting! We dont need anything older then 3 months brought back up. This is 2 years old and obviously shouldnt still be a problem.
