MY Moms 98 malibu, v6 3.1L , when parked has a small leak of coolant on the ground up front. I found where it is coming from. up by the deriver side of the lowe manifold there ia a pool around the oil pump drive gear...i guess where a distributor would go. It is capped off,, i think it still has the drive. I think the leak is either the lower manifold or dripping down from the trottle body, what do you think, also one of the bols for the manifold is kind of shiiny moist around the base, same side as the leak....what do you think ?

Needs intake gaskets,a very common problem.Do not drive it that way,get it fixed right away.I replaced three or four 3100s (3.1L) because someone drove the vehicle with the intake gaskets leaking and the antifreeze will eat the main and rod bearings up when mixed with the oil

My 98 Malibu 3.1 with 148k miles got hit with the dreaded intake manifold leak. Both ends were squeezing out coolant almost as fast as you could pour it in. Not really something I wanted to try and do myself, so I had the repair done by Meineke for about $585.

I agree with everyone else - get it taken care of now. My lower intake gasket replacement was nearly $500 for my 02 Grand Prix. Then the motor died the night I got it back because coolant had already leaked into the oil, screwing up the engine. Now we're looking at about $4000 - unless extended warranty covers it.
