I saw Vendetta last night and loved it. I was a big fan of the origional Matrix, but I thought this movie was quite a bit better. Where as The Matrix was a technical/special effects masterpiece, Vendetta combined some of the excellent cinematography and effects from The Matrix with an excellent story, awesome writing (the "V" alliteration sequence won me over early), and some very good acting from the leads (face it Matrix fans, Reeves is a terrible actor).
The themes were wonderfully deep and well explored. The most striking thing for most viewers will be the movie's politics. There is some excellent debate over the question of where the line is between terrorist and freedom fighter, about government using fear as a source of power over citizens, the ideas and justification behind revolution, and the relationship between church and state. This movie will be discussed and will be behind many a debate for its politics alone. It paints government and state religion very negatively.
Unfortunately I think the very loud politics of Vendetta will overshadow some of its quieter themes. The masked revolutionary "V" undergoes a struggle with vengance and retribution very similar to the themes of Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo and Homer's Illiad. There is also a very interesting exploration of true love between "V" and Evey. Pay close attention to this as it will can be overlooked.
For the nerds in all of us there is still some great fighting sequences and explosions.
This is probably the best comic book based movie ever made for more mature audiences. If you can appreciate all of the symbolism, the language, and the complexity of the themes you should enjoy this movie. This is the best movie I've seen in a long while and might be one of my favorites of all time.

WOW! i just came back from watching it, and i must say it was honestly one of the best movies i've seen in a loooong time. Definitely recomend everyone go out and watch it, you won't regret it.
Aside from the special effects and screen play, the story in itself was very good. Very thought provoking in a political manner, and a psychological sense. without giving away anything, you will come out questioning your own motives in life, more than the main theme of questioning your government.
If any of you have seen Equilibrium, starring Christian Bale, Taye Diggs, and Sean Bean, you'll definitely admire V for Vendetta. If you haven't seen Equilibrium, and just saw this one, go out and rent it, again, you won't be disappointed.
