Cost Questions

I have a 90 integra LS and I wanted to know how much engine mounts cost? Also I wanted to know how much a B16 tranny from the GSR would run me because my shifter makes a grinding sound in 4th gear at high RPMS I don't know how this happened. It sounds kinda crazy that this happened in 4th gear but it did and instead of getting a rebuilt LS Tranny, I figured to go with the shorter-ratio GSR tranny. Oh and does the GSR tranny or gear box bolt up to my B18a?

motor mounts, are you talking stock or aftermarket? hasport has a nice kit for around $600

as for the transmission your looking at around $500 (maybe more or less)

any b-series trans. will fit any b-series block

the reason your 4th grinds is because your 3-4 blocker ring on your synchro. assembly was mis shifted at one time or another...

Thanks for the info. Is it gonna be $500 or less for a rebuilt or new GSR tranny or do you think that I should fix the old one

no problem, $500 for a new trans about $1500 for a rebuild from a shop, if you get a new trans you run the risk of getting a bad trans. with grinds and shit where as a rebuild your gauranteed a good transmission

but if you know how to do it yourself maybe $150 for parts and a weekend

i've done a couple honda transmissions, not to bad of a job

I don't know if I'm well versed enough to do my own tranny job. My mechanical know only goes as far as autobody and Tune ups. I've never even seen the inside of a transmission but I have done some reading on it I know the basic parts...Why is it so much for a rebuild? I only paid 1800 for the car.

Tranny's have a lot of parts and require special tools, like gear pullers, a press, ring remover/installer, etc. They take a lot of time to rework, that is why. When WReX mentioned new tranny, he meant a used tranny. You'll be doing well if you can get a good used GSR tranny for $500. $600 is more likely. I wouldn't try to rebuild one yourself, unless you've atleast seen it done before, or have some that has done it, help you.

On the other hand, if you buy a used GSR tranny, you might try to rebuild your burned one, just for the experience. I strongly suggest you get a Helm's manual ($60) for your car, as this give detailed drawings and instructions for such a task. I bought my manual at their website, and I don't know how I ever got along without it. It has been my bible thoughout my project.

FYI, the GSR engine code is B18C1 for USDM, and B18C for JDM, not B16. The tranny from a GSR will be either an S80 or a Y80, and I'm not sure of the difference between the two. Good luck!

Thanks...How do I tell if It's a good used tranny? Especially if it's already out of the car. Should I look on EBAY as opposed to a junk yard? or Dealer?

A new tranny from the dealer would probably cost you $1500, or so. I'd trust ebay more than a junkyard, because if they have a lot of feedback, you can see if anyone has complained about any of their sales. If the seller states in the auction that he thinks the tranny is good, but he can't guarantee it, I wouldn't buy it. You want a seller that shows confidence that his tranny is in good working condition. I also wouldn't buy from anyone that hasn't previously sold something on ebay. You'll want to install the tranny as soon as you get it, to see if it's good or not. If it's bad, the faster you deal with seller, the more likely he is to take it back for refund/exchange. Or even give you a partial refund if the flaw is minor, like a cosmetic issue. The part that sucks, is you usually have to foot the bill for shipping both ways, if you return it. That's probably $75 one way, for a tranny. If you can find one that you can drive and pick up, it's much better.

You might try craigslist for your city. If you buy locally, you can inspect it before buying. But if you don't use Ebay, you have a lot less protection, if it's bad. If you still want ebay protection, he can set up an auction just for you, and as soon as you bid, he can close it to sell to the highest bidder. I did this with the block I'm using in my car.

Also, it's rare to find any GSR parts at a junkyard, atleast here. They usually sell quick.

thanks I'll try that I guess I gotta get together the money first. how long do you think i have on my tranny now?

Do you mean to ask, how long your tranny will last? As long as you don't drive the crap out of it, it should last a long time. It'll just continue to grind, and probably get worse over time.

You can probably get a used LS tranny for $450 or so. That would require a bit less saving.

Also, about your mounts, why do you want new ones? IMO, that hasport kit is a waste of cash, unless you think your going to put 400hp down. There's a guide to stiffening your stock mounts with windshield sealant here: http://importnut.net/motormount.htm

I chose to do this with my mounts, and I had already bought a mount insert kit. I haven't dropped the engine back in yet, but I'll post when I do, to say how it feels.

I need two mounts the back and the passenger because I can see a hairl line crack in one and the whole car shakes when I'm under 1000 RPM and the shifter shakes
