my friends got a 2001 3.8 and he has a cai but wanted his car to sound a little more aggressive but not loud, i was wondering if he just took off the silencer\resonator how would it sound with the stock mufflers? would that give any performance gains at all?

the resonators for the intake?

and for a v6, you really wont see any gains from exhaust unless you move to a true dual setup

I'm guessing your talking about the rubber air silencer? If you are it wont change the exhaust tone. It might give him like 1-2rwhp.

im not sure if he has what i am talking about... i have a malibu and i put on a flowmaster muffler, i didnt think itwas loud enough so when i looked under the car there was something that looked like a mini muffler right after the cat. i took it off and just put a pipe there and it made it about twice as loud, iwas guessing that would make stock mufflers sound pretty mean but idk if his car has one i suppose i could just look next time i see it.

Sorry we thought you were talking about on the intake. The is no resonator on mustangs. If he wanted, he could just get a somewhat quiet aftermarket muffler.

I ran a true-dual, 2 1/4", h-pipe setup with 40 series originals on mine and it wasn't that loud. (99 v6)

The 40 series Delta Flow's are quieter than the originals, so if he wanted flows, he could do that. idk, does he want to just swap the mufflers and not touch anything else? If so, i'd say 1 DF 40 series. I don't think he would be disappointed.

he dontreally care about performance that much he mostly just want it to sound cooler, i heard someone on another forum use a cobra exhaust system and just get the front side to fit the v6, stock cobra system that is

Yeah, those are refered to as Gt or Cobra takeoffs. It's a very common thing. In doing this he would actually have true-duals with a h-pipe. As far as the sound and mufflers go, i can't really help you out there. No experience. But i doubt the mufflers on the cobra are going to be much different than his stock one, as far as sound goes. Although being an svt, they might be a little louder. Really more of a performance than sound thing though, with that swap. Not a bad idea though. Gt takeoff's could be more easily found. But if it still sounds the same, he will have to buy 2 mufflers then. Stock for stock swap, concerning sound, i can't help you. Try to find someone with a v6 that has done this.

Is he getting dual exhaust or just replacing the stock muffler? Either way just regular flowmaster 40's are alright. Or super flowmaster 40's, there the same thing as regular 40's except their just a little louder.
