more bang for a buck...

Which internal part (from top to bottom) has more bang for a buck? Its a 7bolt. I know what all you guys are going to say. Just get a 6 bolt. The truth is that I made a bet with my friend, its not for money or anything just for bragging rights. The bet was for, I can rebuild the motor that the 2g came and it makes more hp and last longer than his boosted 02' Honda Si. He just rebuilt his motor a few weeks ago. My budget is around $2000. Thanks

Internals wont give you a bunch of power, if you want longevity go with some forged pistons and rods or even better stroke it. But if you want power start with DSMlink, eprom ecu, bigger injectors, a 255, AFPR, and then you can look into a turbo and intercooler upgrade

stroke it. you can make more power that way.

the only reason I want internals is for the boost I'm planing on pushing. Plus its piece of mind knowing that everything is forged.

could get everything cryoed (freezing) to make everything stronger.. I have only heard good things about doing that.

300below.com has some info on cryoing, cheap and effective.

Do some regular pistons (Ross or Wiesco) and eagle rods. That's the standard "stage 2" bottom end build up., and handles something over 600 whp. I've heard of a set of eagles letting go at 660 to the wheels. Should cost much, 325 for the rods and 400 for the pistons, IIRC. The machine work is a little more. But remember, there is always some risk in rebuilding a 7 bolt! Most DSM specific shops will not rebuild them. SBR is the only I know of offering it. If you go to a local machinist, even if he claims to have import experience, it's a real crap shoot. Good luck.

Hey kevin have you ever cryoed any of your internals? I've yet to have any personal experience (my brother did his internals (all oem) but his car's not done yet) they have a lot of testimonials on their site but they are selling something so...

I'm with Kevin, just get a 6 bolt. Do you want your $2000 engine to be completely fucked because the 7 bolt CW'd?
Whats your hp goal? For <450, I would probably just do a rebuild with stock 1g rods, whatever aftermarket pistons you can get for cheapest, and a good head/cam setup. Dont forget the ARP hardware and metal headgasket.

While we're on the subject, a local member just did 585 whp on a stock high mileage 6 bolt. Just an FYI, try that at your own risk ;)
I have no personal experience with cryoing parts. It's one of those things I would probably do if I had an unlimited budget, but in the typical cheap DSMer budget it just doesn't fit in IMO. :)
