Noisy Turn Signal / Flasher

I like my 05 Ford Focus SES. I can handle all the drive train and road noise but that dadgum louda**ed turn signal is about to drive me freakin nuts. Sounds like the flasher unit is in the steering column. Its terribly loud and absolutely annoying. Can this be fixed or otherwise modified? :frown:
