New VW commercial

Did anyone see the new VW commercial? They took what I think was a 2g eclipse (in pink mind you) and basically flung it into the ground and then they said something about german engineering. ARG!

Can someone verify if this was indeed a beloved 2g?

Yeah its an eclipse. I've seen those commercials for 3 weeks now. There are actually 2 different ones with the eclipse and another one with another riced out car, maybe a civic hatch, I don't know.

I thought the fact that the eclipse was pink and all riced out. First time i saw it. I was just upset it was an eclipse lol. So I'm torn

On the note of the commericals. The other riced out mystery car is a Focus.

And I think they are hilarious. If a car is that riced out it deserves to be smashed! even if it is an eclipse.

I am sorry, I just don't agree with the whole "German engineering" bullshit. My family has owned a host of German cars ever since I can remember, and they have been nothing short of mechnical nightmares. Some would be practically BRAND NEW, and everything from the ECU to the fuses to lights would go out every few months. We're talking about everything, from a 2003 745 Li with 6000 miles, to a 1998 E320 with 32000 miles. Everything imaginable has gone wrong with these machines, where Jap cars of the same value would last 200,000 miles before you would even dream of encountering a problem.

In my opinion, Japanese technology has knocked off German "engineering" off its high and mighty throne. That ad was complete bs, and just tells you how scared they are. Before the Japanese "invasion", the guys at BMW and Benz sat on their asses without bothering coming out with new products and newer shapes. Then Lexus and Acura happened, and oh wow, now Benz even have a freakin MINIVAN, lol. People say crap like "you have no taste, you need to drive a REAL car like a BMW". What the hell ever. Those cars are pices of shit that exhude status only. Why else do they have such completely weak warranties out the showroom door, where most if not all Jap automakers offer 100,000 miles 10 year ones.

If I had the money, I would take a new Lexus or Acura over a Bimmer or a Benz any day. The only thing the Germans are clinging to is the status factor. You cannot tell me that in the world today, German cars are "better" than what comes out of Japan...maybe in the past, but not now. My cousins just purchased a 2004 5-series M package and a 2005 TL, both with about 15,000 miles each. The Bimmer has been in the workshop 10 times on the past 5 months. The TL has been a dream. My two cents.

:werd: My dad has a 99 Mercedes E320 (POS) and the CEL is always on, most recently for a bad o2 sensor. LOL the guy at the dealership told him to put a piece of black tape over the CEL indicator.

Even if they are "riced out" eclipses, it makes me sad to see them destroyed. Just like when Fear Factor wrecks those third gen camaros and birds. The Ford Focus in there.....not so sad ;)

I agree totally, Shyder. I'm trying to convice my dad to get a newer Acura TL, or the Infiniti G35 sedan. Both of those cars are 100x better IMO. But he thinks that the "Benz" is a status symbol. Lol, I did convice him to go test drive the G35 at the dealer, and they would only give us like 5 grand on the trade in, so we walked out :(
