88 Lebaron--reliable? good mileage? good buy? everyday driver?

Hi everyone, I'm in the market for a reliable, everyday-driver type of car...

There's an 88 Lebaron in my area for sale, it says "best offer" on it. Upon calling the seller they said they were hoping for $600 but I'm sure I could talk that down.

I haven't heard it run, I don't know the mileage, but the seller is quite sure there is nothing wrong with it. It's a 4 door, tan colored, 4 cylinder, automatic tranny, relatively ugly car.
So are these reliable and good on gas? Any specific problems I look for/ask the seller about? I take pretty good care of my vehicles and don't hot rod them around, I just need something that can run for a long time regardless of high miles, and give me good gas mileage. :)

Any suggestions or advice is very much appreciated!

Everybody will tell you there's nothing wrong with the car...especially for a quick $600. Also, it's hard for a 4-cylinder vehicle to be bad on gas mileage unless it is well out of shape. My advice, if you like the car and there aren't too many miles on it, see if you can get it to a reliable mechanic to give it a check. Ask how long it has been sitting as well. If it's just been sitting for a long time, the brake lines may have turned to crap...another thing for the mechanic to look at.

Hmm, yeah good point. I guess I just put too much trust in people and give them the benefit of the doubt. :p
I'm just wondering if there's any specific things I should look for in Lebarons before buying it. Actually, I probably won't buy it unless I can get it for $400 or less.
