Taking out Springs and Valves

Hey all;
I've been taking apart my head getting it ready for a good cleaning and then some new goodies. However, how can I take out the springs and retainers? I've got everything else out of the head. I seen in the Haynes book that it's easier to take off teh springs and all with the head still on bc then you can use compress air to manual crank the engine and all the jazz. Is there any easy way to get to the pins out to get off everything? Thanks.

Actually, I probably won't do that. I don't have any extra large c-clamps, I don't have a welder, and I don't know how to cut out a hole in a socket

Well if your head is off, you need this tool. if you go out and buy the actuall tool it cost alot of money. I picked up a 8 inch c clamp for $6. The socket i had.

gl with that. I had the hardest time taking those fuckers out. I would suggest something, but the way I did it was WAY too hard and time consuming.

I used a oxygen sensor socket and a big ass c-clamp. The socket was already cut and i bought it at auto zone. Honestly I just rigged it up with duct tape and it worked fine. :)
