Hi:
We have issues starting the car. It usualy starts, but sometimes it will not start. In turning the key, it does not crank, and yet has full power. It seems as though the ignition does not communicate with the starter. We replaced the fuel sensor once and did not rectify the issue. The ignition seems funky and loose. The syptoms seem to be that there is an electrical short or occassional disconnect. After 30 minutes of waiting (time varies) it will start again, with no real action taken causing it to start again. Seems like I have to get lucky for it to start... Starter is fine, battery is fine. fuel sensor is fine. I have heard that lincolns have issues with stalling and not starting, due to the fuel sensor, with same symptoms previously stated. Again it gets power pursuant to a turn of the key, but wont start. Can this be symtomatic of a faulty ignition? Thank you in advance.

Hi:

Both ends of the battery / starter cable are clean and tight?

Hi, Here's a thought, check the 12v lead to the starter solonoid, they usually get corroded and or loose and or dirty.....COMMON problem...See Ya, Clay..

Well--- this car was not mine. my mom's. she ended up putting in a fuel shut off (red button in trunk), a new fuel pump (hich is inside the tank-very costly) and finally took it to the dealer only to learn from them that it was the alternator. she had it fixed for another hefty price and the car is running as it should. I have frivolously replaced so many part with the battery, alternator, starter system always ending up being the problem. anyway, thanks for the help. cables were clean.

Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback. Good miles from here on indeed. they are good cars. I wonder how many miles you have out of your towncar, Steven?

Well,
I have a smaller daily driver that I abuse the crap out of, and save the Town Car for Weekends, and road trips. So, I'm currently at 60k miles after 10 years on her. (well, I hope she's a girl anyway, either that or I'm gay, 'cause it does things to me when I get near her :)
