Got the strut brace in...

Ok - I had to unbolt the aircon brcket from the firewall and move it out a bit to fit the brace mount on the passengers (LH) side.

Not so bad but the drivers side was even more of a pain - resulting in having to undo the fuse box and then unbolt the wiring looms from the firewall as well. Fuse box bolted back up, and it still looks factory - so the spoon strut brace is go :)

Mind you, even though it was made for a EF8 SiR CRX, it only just cleared the vacume unit on the intake manifold - try half a millimeter clearance. I may have to raise the brace's mounts with a 1mm washer on each side to improve clearance to this - but so far there is no sign of the engine moving significantly and the two touching - I haven't put the boot in yet though :)

Anyway - there is a big difference - you can feel how tight the front end is now - corners are more precise and the car just feels right :)

Pics below:

SiR engine bay with brace installed:

Clearing the aircon piping (I've actually got another few mm out of the clearance since the pic was taken:

http://home.iprimus.com.au/cuchulainn/civic/strut3.jpg

Still a tight fit - what clearance over the vacume control unit? Actually - this was why I couldn't use an Aussie brace - they were designed for the ZC and D15 twin-sidedraft carb setup and ran straight through this unit:

it looks pretty good...much better than it did, hanging on the wall of the parts recycler place.

hmmm....I should take some photos of my engine bay huh?

Cool, good to see that it fits without too many headaches.
So the fuse box happily went right back to where it came from, thats good as there doesn't appear to be much room around that, and most strut bars that I have seen on them have made to fuse box hang on with one bolt, and the fuse box at an odd angle.

I guess you removed the bracket holding the A/C pipe to the side of the strut tower.

Big difference aye.. hmmm, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it set you back?

No, I didn't remember. My memory is pretty shot (makes the 'drinky-drinky motion). Another cruise - cool. WHERE TO THIS TIME? Lats one was good. New route, though. Maybe up Blue Mountains?

hi guys, 'm new to AF. I live in Sydney and own a JDM CRX SiR. Have a question to Setanta, where did you get the strut brace from as I really want to get one for my car also, and how much etc?

I've been reading this quite a bit but havent really had a chance to post anything but will try to more.

He got it from Nippon spares in lansvale. I spotted it there, when I went there to check the place out, and told him about it. They've recently opened, but don't have that much there.

welcome to the site :)

Brace was 125 bucks, but is a bit beaten up. Add to that another 50 bucks spent on having it remade as it was rubbing on the dashpot that controls the throttle return. I had to make it 6mm higher for decent clearance.

I can pull it off one day and make a template if you want (can't remember if moppie still wants one for his EF9), but you'll have to get the crossmember made up for it.

Rear brace is 190 tthrough whiteline when I last checked - that and a bigger rear bar (20mm or 22mm up on the factory 14.5mm).

In other news, my throttle body and fast idle unit arrived today - going to get them fitted on Thursday so hopefully the high idle will be fixed.

Quite cheap through Strong in NZ - 225 bucks Aussie all up including shipping - 5 day delivery including the weekend :)

pinyo8: I seem to see/hear of more EF8s in the country, which have come in through SA, Qld, WA and Vic. Only one other EF9 though, a rally car owned by Brett Middleton as a backup for his EG SiR Rally car.

I'd be interested to compare import notes ;)

Flat out mate... SiR's fine although running a bit off at the moment - going to do a major service soon, replacing the timing belt etc and get it dyno tuned when I fit the new exhaust and extractors.

Will prolly do a 1.5-2 drop on the suspension (just get the existing springs retensioned slightly as I can't be bothered wasting money on coil-overs now - marking is too hard to squander on stuff that is marginal). Other than that, will drop on some R711 bridgestones to the 14s and leave it at that until I track down cams and adjustable cam wheels.

thanks for the info guys. Will definitely look into it more.

A little about my car. I actually bought the car off some guy who already had it imported in. Its black and pretty much stock (I really wish I got the glass roof or sunroof but I guess its lighter this way). Except for its got a pod air filter instead now and exhaust cat back. Its riding on King springs and Koni Yellows shocks and typical 17s (lots of spokes). I have to get the height readjusted as the rear is sitting higher than the front (dont know why) and the front scrubs under hard braking and cornering.

My plans for the car is turbocharge, and want to get something like 250HP at the wheels (although have to save lots of $$ first).

Would have joined you for the cruise but am currently overseas but coming back this weekend.

Thats it from moe for now.

The car is probably lowered more at the front then. that isn't that uncommon to see the front lowered more than the back you know.

down near Ulladulla. I'm working here, cause its not a bad job, and its paying for my mortgage LOL and my car things :)

after 4 years of the conservatorium, it sorta killed the enthusiasm and drive I had for it, and realistically speaking there isn't much of a music industry in Australia...especially classical. Everyone goes overseas, and it wasn't viable due to the costs to do so.

I play music now when i want to and for myself...I've really lost the interest in performing for others. Its something that I can always fall back on, and when I get older and settle down a bit more, I'll probably teach, but at the moment, its not worth it to teach unless I have lots of students, and really have no patience for kids atm....little sister is enough. I'm enjoying life and doing well at work, and I'm sure with music....I wouldn't be earning half the much as I do now.
