Hey there, I am new to this forum, but not automotive forums. I am going to be doing an extensive tuneup this weekend on a completely original 1969 Ford. It has the stock 360, half ton long bed. I will be changing the points in it, and this will be my first points change. Could someone please inform me on the process, any tips, anything to look for. Were they are located. I appreciate the help. The truck is mint, we realy got a great deal on it. Thanks for the help.

I apologize for not doing the research on my own, I was at work today and was unable to research this, and my father inlaw wants to do this tomorrow. He just told me today.

As I was reading it said to replace the condenser at the same time of installing the new points. Is this necessary? Does the distributor shaft have to come all the way up, or can I make the switch without pulling the shaft out of the intake? Thanks again for all the help.

Replace the condensor at the same time. No you do not have to remove the distributor. If you were around my neck of the woods I would dust off my dwell meter for you.

The fun part was always getting the points open. The follower needs to be on the high lobe of the cam. Bumping the key always took forever. You should have some movement on the mechanical advance.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Convert the the distribitor to electronic and do away with the points.Runs a whole lot better with electronic ignition. There are kits out there to do this.I know Eastwood sells them.
