Question about a Honda Prelude vs 3000gt N/a

alright i have a 1996 3000gt N/a with the Dohc motor in it. well i was wonderin my buddy of mine has a 1997 honda prelude vtec we both own manuals and i was wondering who would win in a race. Both of our cars are stock i know his car is lighter than mine by a couple of hundred pounds and my car is running about 20 horses more then him. Im thinking its basically a driver race. What are yalls opinions on who woudl win. Im just wondering im going to end up racing him anyway just wondering if i will get dusted or not thanks.

From wat I looked up it lookes like your gonna lose, but thats if you both are of equal skill...

i mean wut woudl help me win either go from stop or maybe from a role or woudl he just beat me anyway.

Just race him. A very good driver in that Prelude can pull low 15's. Your about mid 15's. If your the better driver you can win. There are so many factors in racing that can affect the outcome. If you lose you los and if you win great. Just race him and let us know how it goes.

Everyone is gonna tell you that he will beat you cause he has factory rice, i.e. VTEC. BUT I have never met a Prelude I could not smoke. Ive even made money off a dorks who worship honda and believe me your better off from a dig. so go race him already!

they are no different then all those other over-rated grocery getters.
and they are "supposed" to be mid 15 sec cars. I think thats pure bull. Ive never seen them run better then 16s.

I ran one in my 1997 N/A SOHC and just barely lost. You shouldn't have a problem.

Mainly because of the connotations that VTEC has. Since you see so many riced out honda civics with huge fartcan exhausts and glaring visual flaws, most people make the connection between these cars and VTEC. Therefore VTEC with be seen as rice, which is hated on everywhere.

VTEC, MIVEC, and whatever-you-want-to-call-it-vec . . . . . variable timing is definitely a positive thing to have on a naturally aspirated car, and it doesn' make a huge difference. However, I think where most honda owners get carried away is that a lot of them assume they are automatically fast because they have variable timing. Grant it, extending out the torque curve is definitely a plus, but what they fail to realize is that their cars only have about 130 ft/lbs of torque. But for that little, I will give props.

Anyways, what makes me laugh is those with vtec who throw a turbo on their car. Forced Induction and Variable Timing DO NOT go together. You do not want variable timing with a forced induced car because it will run slower than a car without variable timing.

You aint kidding about the huge fartcan deal... I have a co-worker with a G35 now but has a Teg with a huge fartcan that he loves. He loves it so much that everytime he talks about driving he makes the fartcan sound. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking that he'll probably "upgrade" his G35 exhaust to a fartcan in the future... "WEEEEEEERT WEEEEEEEEERT" says he! LMFAO

Not entirely true, you just need a vtec controller and to do a couple dyno pulls because the stock engagement point isnt going to be the best place to turn on vtec anymore.

haha, G35 . . . my friend bought his RT/TT at the Nissan/Mercedes dealership that he used to work at (he bought it while he was working there so he got a great deal on it). Anyways, a lady traded in the RT/TT, test drove and bought a 350Z because she said the RT/TT was too fast for her lol.

Do you laugh at 300zxTTs???? They have VVT, but it's computer controlled. They didn't come with it in 96' and no one mods those becuase they don't have the VVT... just saying is all... :wink:
