Hi, I have a 99 ford taurus wagon with AX4N tranny in it. I just bought the car but it has been dealer serviced according to the maintance cycle in the owners manual. The transmission shifts seamlessly between all gears except 3 and 4. When it shifts it makes a vibration, nothing major just enough to bug me. There is no loss of power it just isn't smooth Is this normal for this car or can something be done to fix it? Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Justin

It could have the wrong fluid in the transmission. It was made for Mercon V and I've found that it will make it shift smoother.

It should have Mercon V fluid in it, it was serviced by the dealer (tranny flush) the day before I bought it. Is there a way to test for Mercon V fluid.

Just got back from Mister Transmission, they say that my transmission needs new (or built) valves. Says it will cost around $1700, is this my best option???? Please Help!

How did the tranny shop come to that conclusion? $1700 will get you a complete reman tranny.

no it would just fix the valves that are not working properly, the reason that they said it is going to cost so much is because they have to drop the transmission to get to the valves, my friend who know more than me about cars says that the place may be pulling my leg that he has heard that you can get to the valves without having to drop the tranny, is this true?

no just the valves. Do you have to drop the tranny to get at the valves?

What is Mister Transmission??? Local shop or franchise type???? I looked in my book, looks like the main valve body and pump can be removed while trans is still in car, you have to support the motor also,, looks a little involved, not sure what valves need to be replaced... I just had my trans rebuilt completely, ax4s 94 Taurus, cost me around 1800+ dollars with two new trans mounts and a oil seal for the motor.
