I have a ZC engine with my stock si tranny. I was rippin around in it today and for some reason when i'm in the high rpms and throw er' in third it grinds. It doesn't do this on any other gear and it only does it in high rpms. When i drive normally (3000 rpm) it goes in smooth. Do all si trannys do this? Maybe try changing tranny fluid??

Sounds like your 3rd gear syncro is starting to go bad...

If I was you I'd be babying that tranny, in my buddy's integra this problem has gotten so bad it hardly goes into 3rd :banghead:

thats what i was afraid of. I'll throw in some new tranny fluid next week and try and be easier on the gears. I want this tranny to last me as long as it can!!

Yeah it seems most honda trannys have syncros that go out on the 3rd for some reason. This happens to my B16A2 tranny in high rpms, 3rd gear, too. And from what 90civicrider said I'm a little more nervous about it now :uhoh:

Yeah, 3rd is notorious I'm told....Mines done it maybe 2 times at very high roms but it will somethimes just do it for no reason...about 1 or 2 times a week. Mines a YS1, replacing it will be a bitch. Only in 2 years of the integra.

i have this same problem. if i shift at a low rpm no grind, if im honing it out when i shift, itll grind. if i let the revs drop and guide it into gear rather than force it, no grind. of course that kills your forward progress but i dont race this thing so no worries.

the thing i love about this car, its got 220k and my last tank i got 38mpg. 382 miles on one tank. thats awesome for an old ass car. not to mention cheap ass insurance. its a great econo runabout with potential to tinker with for a hobby on the cheap.

the brakes suck so im starting there, just need my new bushings before i can begin the install...

almost all of them do this for some resone, my old d16a did that for about 3 years, but i just learned to do the same thing as you,, use slight pressure and slowly shift into 3rd.

That will work fine for a long long time... You dont need to power shift everywhere :licka:

Try draining the fluid, and putting in some GM Syncromesh. Might help a little.

That's right. I'll never back down to anybody with a Honda and a B-series, unless they have as many bolt-ons as I do...

I think I qualify in the bolt on ring....

Yeah, but I'd still run you. It would be fun and probably really close. I can rev to 8200 too (ecu flash) but if I make power that's a different story.

Also, to get back on topic, grinding gears can always be a factor... LOL

Yeah I can hit that, but I dont like to...and at that kind of rpm I've ground 3rd before and it sucks...

For some reason I have a problem with 4th gear grinding but only if I shift too fast or too slow.

Last night, I was in a crappy mood for some reason so right before I get to the house I'm shifting fast and quickly grind just about all of the gears. I blame it on the wife being in the car... LOL

I notice my 3rd only really grinds when I space out from the shifter and move it too slow...then itll just hit a sort of wall and not go in...
