I know this post isnt about a 4th gen civic like mine, but my buddy needs info desperately and i wanna get the question out there and get some answers. And since this forum is always good with engine questions i thought i would give it a shot. Here is the post i posted in the teg forum:

Ok, my buddy has a 1990 Integra GS wit a b18a1 naturally. Now some shit went wrong in his cylinder head so he is aquiring a newer b18b1 engine. Now this car is for his wife, so please no replies on performance and horsepower figures, basically he wants me to find out what is nesassary to swap in the whole new engine (mounts, wiring harness, sensors, etc etc) and how difficult that would be vers cost effective. OR,even better he would like to know if the b18b1 head can be swapped onto his b18a1 block to save time, money, and headaches. And how difficult would the head swap be?if at all possible.
for now i think that is all he wants to know.
Recap- B18A1 to B18B1 :difficulty and cost?

you can just bult it right in. the only thing diffrent is the OBD generation. use the b18b1 block/head...and use your intake manifold & distributer... everything should be the same.

the head swap...same stuff. you will need a new head gasket and ,intake/exhaust manifold gasket (and why not timing belt and water pumpwhile your at it)

Same block....Different wiring, but only a little different...Like he said^ Manifold and distributor from old engine and your set!

You don't even need to swap intake manifolds, just sensor locations.
