i have checked out many 1g eclipse/talons tsi awd/tsi/gst for the range of $2-3500....

I was wondering what kind of problems i could expect from these cars and how much $ i should save up before buying a turbo car for $3,500 w/ 120,000...

Try to find a car with a rebuilt engine, I bought mine with a rebuilt for 2k. :icon16: But, if you really want to buy something with that much miles on it, replace everything to be on the safe side =P. Check out DSM-talk and tuners for cars on sale.

Replace ALL the hoses (I learned that the hard way, several times :( )

Do a boost leak test.

Your name is, want a stealth. what made you change your mind?

stealths have really bad gas mileage and i want a turbocharged car(stock)....

they are more expensive than DSMs and if i really had the money, i would buy a 3000gt vr4 (twinturbo)

the parts are a lot more expensive and many things can go wrong...

idk maybe DSMs can be just as expensive to maintain, but i really hope not because i am on a tight budget and i really want a 1g tsi/gst(less crankwalk)

this is what i found, but the problem is i wont have this much money for like another 4 months lol

Where are you from? That one (the ugly gold colored one) is like 5 miles from me. I might be selling my 1g in the future...

I think the champaine(sp?) colored 1g is the hottest aside from the electric blue ones. But yeah I have heard some horror stories about the 3000gt/stealth, Im sure a dsm would be a lot cheaper between the two. Both of those cars are automatic, is that what you want? What would be your goals for the car? I know what you are going through, I saved up for my dsm too(got it for 700). Its my first car and I cant believe how much I have learned from working on it. Good luck -

I bought my 2g from someone in milwaukee. Well if you're interested later on a I may still have it (like over the summer) I'm about 45 miles south of milwaukee.

Well right now it's pretty modified, if i sell it i will return it to stock. Right now it has a blown head gasket but i intend to fix that before selling it, i also plan on painting it, probably between 2500-3000.

Mpg on a DSM is around 21 city/28 highway. I get 22 average. Stock boost is around 14.5 psi.

can u drive a manual ?. cause both car u show us is auto. Get a manual.

yeah i'm a valet parker, so i can kinda drive manual, but i'm not very good when driving the car really fast and switching to the next gear.

when i'm shifting to the next gear and going really hard, the whole car shakes. i was driving with my friend and when he switches gear his car is really smooth, but then again i only have around 2 blocks to drive the car and as soon as i get to 2nd i have to slow down...i think i need to work on pressing down the clutch and letting the gas go and then letting off on the clutch and pressing on the gas

i dont want to mess up the transmission and have to rebuild it or get a new one since i'm low on money

since the boost is around pretty high stock, is it possible to get a boost control and lower it to around 3 or something for normal driving to get better gas mileage?

i noticed these cars dont get great mileage (when compared with my 92 corolla) so i want to make them a bit more gas efficient

Lowest you can go, on a 1g at least, is 9 psi with the stock wastegate actuator. Boost for a 1g is set around 11psi.

can i get an aftermarket wastegate actuator to go lower than 9 psi?

$?

NO you can't put your boost at 3 lbs. Keep your foot out of the gas, and you won't boost "so high". OR go get a non turbo :icon16:

i was just asking...

the only thing i'm worried about buying a 1g DSM is reliability, i mean i will be driving this car everyday and i dont want serious problems to arise.

even though i beat the shit out of my corolla, it wont beat this new car, as much, since i'll be paying for all of it...

contrary to popular belief DSMs can be pretty dang reliable, it just all depends on how you treat the car. As long as the previous owners didnt thrash the car and you replace all the hoses and stuff when you get it, it should be a great car. When I first bought my car I was experiencing all sorts of problems and I was getting really pissed. So I just replaced everything you should replace and more all at once and I havent had any problems since.

I was leaving my gym about a week ago a saw this guy getting in this like 90 Laser tubo, so I started talking to him and he went on about how much he loved the car and how it was holding up like no other car he'd had. For a 16 year old car he said it was really suprising. And he was like 60 so he's probably seen a car or two.

I never had any problems with any of my dsm's (90 gst, 91 tsi awd, and 95 gsx) only time problems came up was after i modded them.
