How fast is the M3 without the Limiter?

I read on the specs sheet that the M3 is limited to 155 mph, if its possible to remove it and it has been done, does anyone know what the top speed is or would be?

Hi there,

I've got a M3 (E46) from 2001. I've taken the limiter out, normally it kicks in around 7800/7900rpm, but mine is changed to 8500rpm now it drives over 285 km/h!! It makes alot of difference!

Don't have an M3 myself (yet) but according to Dinan, with their mod the newer M3s have a "theoretical" top speed of 201mph.

It is very believable that a E46 with the rev limiter and governer removed can hit 177MPH or 285KMH. The thing has 45 more HP than my 540 and weighs 400 pounds less. I hit the 155 MPH governer in my car the other day and had barely even shifted into 6th gear.

it depends also on what wheels are on
and if it is fully equipped

To break 200mph on an M3 you'll need 450 hp.

A stock C5 coupe has a top speed of about 172 mph. It is about 100+ lbs lighter, is more aero, and has about 17 more hp at the flywheel. IMO, then, I would guess the E46 M3 without the rev limiter probably tops out not much past 170.

I own a 2002 M3 US Specs and live in Germany. The limiter kicks in at 170 mph.

170 mph is ~275kph. The engine is only at ~6400rpm and is still pulling strong when the limiter cuts in. It's great to blow away almost everything else on the Autobahn.

US Military near Kaiserlautern. Ich spreche nicht Duetsche. Have you taken you Z3 to the Nurburgring Nordschleife? It is awesome. Also hoping to try Hockenheim this year.

i wasnīt on a racetrack yet.
but iīll probably be on the hockenheimring next thuersday.

itīs opened for public from 17.00-20.00 every thuersday.

nuerburgring is still a dream for me, but itīs a 4-5 hours drive to get there. then i could make 2 turns and have to drive home 4-5 hours again. thatīs not worth all the action.

did you ever take your m3 to the nordschleife?

whatīs your BTG time?

greets

Marius

Unfortuneately, thursdays are bad for me, so I do not think I'll ever get on the Hockenheim ring. However, I have run about 50 laps on the nordschleife. One of my M3 buddies even has a season pass and has run over 100 laps. I do not time my runs, but I think they are in the 9:15 to 9:30 range. The nordschleife is definitely worth the trip, but be warned it is a VERY dangerous course.
