I have a 96 Grand Am SE with the V-6 that wouldn't start one day. I've seen several posts with a similair problem but none that were exactly the same.
When I turn the key the car would turn over but never fire.I was told by several people that it was the fuel pump since you couldn't hear it when the key was on and a local mechanic even hooked up a fuel pressure tester. It read 0 and he said it was probably the fuel pump so I bought a new one and installed it.When I tried to start it nothing happened and I noticed my door wasn't dinging when it was open and they key was in it.AFter turning it some more times all the sudden the fuel pump made some noise and the door starting dinging and it started.Once it was running there was no problem but after shutting it down it again wouldn't start.
After bumming rides the last two weeks I got it to start agagin out of nowhere.Same thing if the door bell kicks on everything worked fine.I drove it to a friends house and figured if the handbrake was on to keep the lights off I could just keep the key on and it would start anytime but my battery ran dead anyway. Now when I try to jump it the alarm goes off constantly no matter what key position it's in.I didn't even know there was an alarm.I thought the little red light was just for show as I had never had it go off before. I'm not much of a mechanic I just take bad parts out and put new ones in adn if I can't I can get someone to help but I have no idea what the problem is.I would appreciate any help someone could give as I have to bum rides just to get to work to buy whatever part I might need and it's a strain on me, my firnds. and family depending on who I can get a ride from on any given day.

I had the same issue with my 99 GA when I got it home from the auction. Go under the drivers side dash, and look for a alarm brain. Its a small black box, and it may have a fuse on the side of it. If it does, all you should have to do is pull the fuse, and it should start. If you don't have a fuse, just cut the power to it. If you cant find it, just follow the wire from the light to the other end of it. Hope this helps!
