Crankshaft balancer assembly

I noticed my 95 LT1 has a wobble to the crankshaft balancer assembly. So, I ordered a new balancer assembly and want to replace the original. While I'm at it, I plan on checking the run-out of the crank with a dial indicator to make sure the wobble I seen was just the balancer. I have two questions related to this project:

1. What is acceptable allowance for run-out measurement on the crankshaft snout?

2. My service manual makes special note that when you replace the balancer, to make sure you replace the weights (my old balancer has two weights in it) with new ones, in the same positions. My new balancer came with no weights, so are you suppose to drive the old weights out of the balancer and then install them in the new one or what?

Thanks,

Randy

Those are some fairly good questions.

Have you trued the crank to make sure it's not bent and that the mains are ok?

Never dealt with weighted crank like that, but surely someone can chime in on that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "trued" the crank, but a run-out measurement with a dial indicator will tell if the crank is bent or if the main bearings are damaged.

Thanks for a reply.

The weights go in the same spot as they where on the stock balancer. The LT1's have a keyed notch in the crankshaft that the hub gets pressed onto but what tends to happen is the hub over time tends to slide ever so slightly on the crankshaft which completely messes up the balance. How are the threads on the crankshaft side, I know I have had a few that needs to be rethreaded, was the original one loose at all?
