I was doing a tune up today, and as I went to put the cap back on the distributor, I noticed that the numbnuts before me had broke the hole in half where the cap mounts to the distributor, and used some sort of RTV to hold the screw in there. Has this happened to anyone, and how do I fix it? Thanks.

I've never seen it happen. I once heard that LockTight made a threadable locktight. If this is true (I've never seen it) it might be just the thing.

I heard that you gooped it in, threaded the bolt in, pull it out and let the lock tight harden. I would imagine that there's a little more to it than that.

Your Blazer will run beter when you get that fixxed.

Yeah, I had the same problem. It seems the base of the distributor that the cap screws go into is made of plastic. One of the stupidest things I've seen. You don't even have to tighten the screws much before "CRACK" and it's now busted. And of course you need a whole new distributor assembly. Seems to me like it's made to break so that you have to buy a new distributor. $$$ All I did with mine was get a couple heavy duty zip ties and tie the cap in place nice and tight. Good idea to keep a few extra ties in the truck too, in case of emergency. I plan on gettin another distributor for mine once I can find a cheap one.

We have them down in FL at Autozone for 89.99. I just JB Welded the cap on. Probably won't ever get it off but oh well, I'll just replace the distributor next time I guess, what a stupid design.

If you have one hole/screw in good shape yet I would think one would still hold it OK, RTV would help a little maybe on the other side. If both are broke then it is a different matter.

Use a longer screw and then use a flat washer and a nut below the broken ear.

I JB Welded the cap to the distributor. Works great, until the next time I decide to change the cap....
