I've been only getting 10-12 mpg in town...I baby it too. That seems too low...dirty fuel injectors? I also heard a bad catylic converter would get me bad gas mileage too...could that be it? HEEELLLP!!!!!!
Also...I'm gonna get a new air filter...Fram Air Hog.........................or K&N??? I'm thinkin K&N...but not sure.

Give us some more info. What year? 2 or 4 WD, What Engine? HAve you done a tuneup larely including plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV valve?

It's a 1996 LT Blazer. I've replaced spark plugs and PCV valve. Its 2WD with 4WD option...make sense?

Not sure what you mean by 2WD with 4WD option. But I would start with wires, rotor and cap and see what that does. Is the check engine light on or anything? Air Filter would help also, K&N is nice as long as you don't do alot of dirt or off road driving.

Here's a few questions that will help if you know them.
How long has it gotten 10-12?
How long have you owned?
what did it used to get?
What mpg does it get on hiways?
How long are your trips?
How do you test mpg ?
Is your speedometer correct?

I haven't had it all that long. I just don't think it should be gettin that low. I've owned it since last summer.
highways....16-18
We go to Colorado sometimes...(8 hours) usually its an hour or less
when I fill up...its trip miles over amount of gas put in.
speedometer is correct

Go to advance auto or somewhere similar and try fuel system cleaner that helped improve my gas mileage
Its cheap about 4-6 dollars
Also have your catalytic converter checked as well it helps
Ive got a K&N it works pretty well........ its easy to clean
Maybe by 2wd with 4wd option he is trying to say part-time 4wd................
Anyone know anything about that MPG Cap?

I agree, it is poor mpg. It sounds like all your figures are correct. Your mpg is consistant between the two tests also. I have the exact same vehicle and get what the sticker shows usually. 18 city / 23 hiway. That is what it has always gotten.
It has got to be something in engine, timing/mixture/gearing/torkconverter
sorry I can't be more specific, I am surprised it doesn't have a error code and some smoke and smell, it probably runs and idles great?

Have you checked to see if you have a stuck brake caliper or parking brake?

You got a point there, that was one of my major causes of the horrible fuel economy on mine.

i havent done any specific "test" if there is such thing...but ive replaced pads twice...im sure i would have noticed? but with the wheel off...(front right) when you try to spin it...it is pretty stiff...you hear a little...kinda like the sound if u rub ur hands together...as for the parking brake...i pull it often just to make sure
but i still wanna kno more bout spark plug wires...scroll up a little...thats the stuff i wanna kno.
but tell me also what i can do to actually "test" calipers...and find out if its bad...ive had problems with that wheel squeeking too....maybe its barely rubbing and so it glazes really fast?

The next time you have the brakes apart, see how easy the piston goes in, keep in mind the hose could be busted inside. This would make it very slow to release and hold the brakes on.
When to comes to the plugs/wires, i use ac delco all the way around. Others in this form might have a better suggestion.
What kind of fuel injction do you have?

A new fuel filter is always a good idea for part of your tune up. A clogged filter can decrease the amount of flow to your injectors plus put extra wear on your fuel pump.

How does one check for a stuck caliper? Mine compress fine with a c-clamp, but to be 'free' should I be able to move them by hand or what?

If you had a dragging brake it will show up as smoke and lots of stink and heat long before you ever notice a decrease in mpg when refuelling.

Actually, it won't get that bad until it gets really stuck on there.
A hanging caliper can give enough force to hang up the rotor without getting that hot.
Best to check by lifting the tire and spinning it to see if it turns freely.

The caliper should work with a C clamp, if you have to force the piston in there is something wrong. If the brakes are not smoking, they are not holding you back. Could be some air in the lines. that would keep the piston pulling in all the way and cause the shoes to touch the disk.
There is two common types of fuel injection in Blazer. CPI(central port) or TBI(throttle body). If you are not sure, look at the VIN. almost half way through there will be a W or Z. W means it has CPI, Z means TBI.

Mine were stuck on for a long time and they don't have to be seized completely on and smoking to cause a fuel economy drain.

I'm sure that it will be real funny when you're trying to explain to your ISP (Cox) why Derek Morgan (from McPherson Kansas born 05/26/87), is violating their user agreement by illegally registering at this site and breaking our EULA.
