2000 GS-R....Trying to replace my spark plugs. The oem ngk's from acura are 17 bucks a plug which I am not willing to spend right now. I looked at the ngk g power platinums and I checked the gap and it was .035...I went to auto zone, napa, advanced, and I could not find one platinum plug that matched up to oem specs which is .052 (correct me if im wrong but thats what it says in the manual). Now I know re-gapping platinums is a no no but why the fuck can't I find a plug at .052. I tried denso and ngk's from all those stores and they all came up around .035 and .040. WTF help.

If the engine is stock, and the ignition is stock, then most of the platinums and iridium plugs are fine for it. If the plug instructions say don't gap it, just leave it, and you should be gtg. The different metals and electrode shapes change the necessary gap. There are a lot of interesting articles on spark plugs on the net.

Some decent info: http://www.aa1car.com/library/2004/us30428.htm

That's not the article I was looking for, but it's still good info. If you spend some time searching google, you'll find some article's that explain why an iridium plug is good for a stock motor, but not so good for a nice ignition system.
