Dumb? Question....

Can you get a wheel alignment is your R/F Hub & Bearing is "bad"? I took my 91' GrandPrix in for new tires and alignment today. They called and said that the RF Hub & Bearing needs to be replaced. I said no, don't replace, just give me new tires and alignment. The technician said that you can't align with a bad hub&bearing....TRUE?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I would tend to say it can not be aligned with the play in the bearing. If it can be aligned it will not stay in alignment.

Take it somewhere else.

Since the hub bearing affects the tires position, if the bearing is bad enough, there is no point to doing an alignment. Normally though, when abearing gets to that point, it will make noise letting you know it's bad. I believe the tech is doing one of two things here. Either he's a nice guy and doesn't want you to waste your money on the alignment (doubtful), or he's trying to pressure you into buying a hub and paying him to put it on (likely).

What's the clock test for the hub? is it play to the left-right or up-down?

You could buy the hub and DIY...then go get it aligned...

i did mine on my 00 and it wasn't that bad. It took about 3.5 hours, less than $100, and I have limited mechanical ability...

But then again, i don't know the diff. in yr model yours may be harder to do?

The proceedure is almost identical, except there is no ABS sensor in the hub on a 91 (if the car has ABS, it's on the CV alxe shaft).
