Alright, How dificult is it to convert an automatic car into a manual? What parts woud I need? Tranny, Clutch and brake pedels, and clutch, anything else? Does anybody know how much a shop generally would charge for something like this if it is too difficult for me to do on my own? Please refrain from the "Sell It and buy a manual equipped car" thats not the answer I'm looking for! but any other help would be great! Thanks a lot...

A subaru will be difficult. very difficult because the AWD system in the automatic is completly different then the one use for the MT. plus your tranny is underneath the car more then a normal FWD car. Because you are asking this question i would say don't bother. it is much harded then it looks.

Retrofitting in most cases costs more than it's worth. Like higgimonster said, it most likely is going to cost you more and be pretty hard. You might be better off buying a car that already has a MT, mainly for the fact that you have AWD and you have the transfercase to deal with. It would just be a massive change for your car.

how hard would it be to change an automatic to a manual in a regular FWD car. How much would it cost to have that changed on my stratus?

These are the things you would need to consider:
making a spot for the clutch, runniung a clutch cable, mounting a shifter, running the shift linkage, etc.
for a general idea of what is involved look here:

eventhough it is a saab the ideas are the same except your tranny is not underneath the engine like the saab's

Well besides what higgimonster put, you'll have to take the front end from a Stratus that is manual, which reminds me, do they make a Stratus with a MT besides the R/T? You will have to make sure that the new transaxle will bolt up to your engine. You might want o look around salvage yards for one, or maybe there is an aftermarket kit you can buy.

That all depends how difficult of an endevour this is. Because I do have access to a lift and several friends that would be willing to put some time into this...

Most only do this conversion once. It is such a pain and effort that it really isn't worth it. Unforseen problems often arise and the benefits are slim. Keep in mind that the engine is also tuned differently for auto or manual cars. Different cams, adjustments and mounts are the beginning of your problems. I can say it is better to just buy a car with a manual from the factory.

I have a 1970 Ford Torino that has no engine in it. it used to have a 351 with an automatic tranny, but i am going to buy a new engine with a manual tranny. How hard do some of you think that would be?
