3.8 Performance???

I am planning on getting a firebird in the next few months, my friend has a 2000 3.8 with a 5 speed he is gonna sell me for 3400$ but the clutch is about ready to go on it.... anyways how much power could i get on a 3800 engine without spending too much money? preferably not more than 2000$ and also howmuch work\ money would it be to drop an lt1 or ls1 in it?

l recommend you not to think about putting LT1 OR LS1 in that car. first of all it would cost u a lot of money and labor. l think if u put LT1 in it, then u gotta change the transmission and some other parts. also as mr.Luos said, if u have anykind of accident, insurance company would cancel it when they see 8 cylinder engine under the hood.

aanyway, just get an LT1 trans am insted of tht if u wanna be fast, i assume u cant afford an LS1 right now like me:lol:

well besides the v8, what kinds of goodies are there for the 3800? i dont reallywant to go with turbo or sc but how much hp estimated would i getwith just basic like cai, throttle body headers full dual exhaust? my brother had a 3.8 camaro and all he has is cat back exhaust. thats pretty quick so icould live with it but a little more powerwould be nice

Without forced induction or Nitrous systems you can look at most for 230HP at the wheels. Stock 3800 SeriesII engine will put about 165-180HP at the wheels.

you can k&n FIPK it, then maybe some headers if you can find them, then exhaust back from there, might even be able to get some head work done, or get a better set of heads, at that point you'll be putting out some fun power.

another question i have is will the transmission be able to handle extra power? i know my car i have now cant, even a simple cai and cat back causes problems with mine
