When changing the rear differential fluid do I need to take the rear plate off to drain the fluid or is there a release valve or bolt somewhere? I found where I insert the fluid, but not the drain bolt. I have a 2000 5.7 liter with old body style with four wheel drive. Please help!!! Thanks, Skip

Oh yeah, that goes for the front diff too.

Rear diff, you will have to take off the cover plate to drain the fluid. I like to put a new gasket in when I change the fluid.
Front diff should have a drain plug so you will not have to remove the cover to drain.

Good idea, I'll make sure to do that. Thanks for the info, Skip

If you want a good gear oil, use royal purple, may cost a little more but well worth it.

Sounds like a plan, I'll check out the local auto parts stores and see if they have it in stock. Thanks, Skip

And if postive track rear end use the correct fluid or the additive for it.
