i've been lookin online for intakes for my 99 dodge durango and found alot. i mean LOTS! i've heard that the k&n are the best. is that true? this are the ones im most interested on:
1)www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/intakes.html
2)www.streetbeatcustoms.com/dodge9.html
3)www.performancecenter.com/products/searchtype_d/sortorder_DAA/productcategory_Air+Intake+Kits/category_Air+Intake/sf1_DODGE/sf2_1999/sf3_Durango/sf4_360~5.9l/?PHPSESSID=ab0efcf79673ac699e7beb26b75ac6bc

any ideas to which one would give me more hp?

I would assume any of these will give better performance, and dont expect to see huge increases.I would go with a heat shield the cooler the better and possibly wrap it with bubble wrap insulator from hardware store ,the cooler the air is kept the better.I dont have one on my durango but on my bonneville 90sse I noticed a good difference with a homemade CAI like what your looking at (I used pvc pipe and k&n) .On my 2000 super charged I have a FWI (fender well intake) going into my fender well which will keep air cooler and I did not notice a big difference .What difference I noticed on both was the sound of the engine it is awsome. The important thing is the cooler the better also you want it to be laminar you would be better off without the accordian tube (street beat customs intake) it will disrupt a smooth airflow. Also K&N is one of the best. dont believe the hp they say you get it may be 5 - 10 at best.Go here http://www.intense-racing.com/ and order some hose under induction catgory it looks accordian but inside it is smooth(11.99/ft plus shipping) and buy your own filter and measure and figure a way to install it will be less than $100.
