Alright, everyone first sat in a driver seat with someone. Myself was with my mom. Well lemme get to the story. She would freak out every single second of it. Even when Im trying to lean forward and check the cross-street for oncomming traffic she would lean forward and check forward blocking my view. >_< ahaha, and one time i was pulling into our driveway and well its like the width of two cars and there was one car already parked there with barely enough for the one i was driving to get in. And well I guess I was too close for her standards. I wasnt going to hit the car but I was gonna be like a foot or so from it. Doesnt sound bad but a foot can look like its gonna hit from inside the driver seat. Anywho, share you first time driving stories!

Mine is VERY much like yours. But the second time i was driving, my dad took me on to the highway (I only had about 1/2 an hour of driving so far). I was pretty scared at first, but then got used to it pretty quick.

I hope that's a typo. LOL
First time driving, I drove the driver's ed Chevette and was allowed on the roadways in NJ. I almost shit my pants... not because I was driving for the first time, but because I was in a Chevette... haha. (note: first car was high mileage hand me down Chevette that sucked so bad I got passed by nuns on the NJ Parkway).
Second time driving, with my mom in our 1985 Lincoln Towncar which was a big difference from the driver training Chevette. I tooled around the big church parking lot. My mom wouldn't let me take her baby out in the street... haha.
Third time driving, I was with my brother and his wife in her new Sonata. I was accelerating on a backroad but was looking at the tach instead of the speedometer and when I realized I was speeding I almost went off the road... haha. She was cool though and let me use the car for my test.

My first time driving was when I was 6-7.. in a 78 Camaro.. I was driving on a dirt road and basicly learned how to maintain control of the car and that was it.. I did that for a while and then my mom taught me how to drive when I was 15 in my Camaro.. she didnt freak out or anything.. so I guess my mom is weird compared to your moms since she didnt yell at everything.

learnt how to drive a year ago but i first drove a few years ago when me and my friends took their car out for a joyride and crashed it. I think that explains why my mom screams everytime i make a turn

I got to learn how to drive in a place w/ nothing but dirt roads. It was pretty cool. Anyways, the first time was w/ my grandma and my lil' brother was w/ us. I'm drivin' fine and we get to a point where were suppose to turn around. She tells me to go off the dirt road and I do so. Only I went off the road so fast I couldn't press the brakes fast enough and got us stuck in a prarie dog hole. We had to walk home which was about 10 miles and it was a hot day. :grinno:

i was 14, driving along the driveway (i live in a development, me share a driveway with other houses) my dad asked if i wanted to drive the car to the house. my sister was in the passenger seat. my dad was so non chalant about me driving he said he'd walk back. i fllored it, squealed the tyres, scared the shit outa my sister and then slammed the brakes. i then drove beack very slowly. my sister kept going "oh my god im gonna die, oh my god im gonna die.." until i kicked her out the car.
not very interesting in retrospect..

my mom used to let me sit in her lap and steer while she worked the pedals (i was REALLY young then). My dad was more the one that would let me drive by myself, meaning i had complete control over the wheel and the pedals. the first real time i drove from the park in our neighborhood to my house. only like a quarter mile, but i was about 10 i think. i was doing alright except for when i pulled into the driveway. i was driving like an 91 Bronco. it was big for a 10 yr old to be driving. i pulled it in the driveway but sort of forgot to straighten it out. i ended up stopping like a foot from our wall. needless to say my dad wouldn't let me behind the wheel for a month.

I was in the 3rd grade. We pulled into the parking lot where he worked at the time and he said watch his foot movement. After about 10 minutes of him starting and stopping, he made me get over and do it. I stalled about three times and then I got it. He had me start and stop atleast 30 times. Then ... he made me start out on the hill. It took me a while to do figure that out. But for a kid in 3rd grade, driving a stickshift truck in a parking lot (even if it is only 1st gear going 3mph) was still pretty cool.
Then a few years later, my dad taught me how to take off / shift up / downshift the 18 wheeler. I remember probably in the 7th grade, he taught me how to hook up trailers then probably a few months after that, he had me do figure 8s backwards with a trailer ... and people wonder why I can back up better with a mirror than anyone else. (I never look through the back window or use the rear view mirror backing up).
