no back up lights

Took my 99 Neon in for inspection today and no back up lights. If you pull the shifter back just a little past reverse they will come on (of course this wasn't good enough to pass inspection). Does the shift cable just need adjustment ? If so is this located under the battery?

Sometimes the reverse switch will go bad.

hey man i'd say you have a problem with the reverse switch. i had the same problem with mine, so im saying thats whats wrong. hope u get it fixed and she passes inspection.

Yep, it was the switch. Changed it, and it passed, looks like Im good for another year.
