I have a thought, I'm probably wrong but will the metal make bigger stroke? I don't know how thick it is, that's probably what I'm asking?

It wouldn't make a bigger stroke, it may increase the displacement by .002 liters (random number) but it wouldn't make a noticeable difference.

I can't see the pic very well, but it looks like the water passages have a sealing ring around them already. So no do not put anything on the gasket.
The thicker gasket will lower compression slightly, but since your head is shaved so much I wouldn't worry. It probably equals out.

I thought that I was going out on a limb by saying that, I wasn't sure that's why I asked.

The stock gasket is pretty thick, I want to say .054 compressed or something along those lines. The MLS gasket isn't much thicker IIRC. It does have rubber like sealing rings at all the important places, I always install them dry. And just for reference, the EVO uses a mitsu MLS gasket stock, so they are perfectly reliable. I've even reused them successfully. I wrote up a bunch of info about how to properly install the head studs (Which I hope you are doing at the same time, if you haven't already), check and see if it's on my site before you do the install. It would have saved me a couple HGs back in my younger days :D

It's a coating. Somewhat like the green shit on the TB and intake manifold gaskets.

I know you know what your talking about but this does not feel like a coating, I tried to scratch it with my finger nail but i couldnt so if it is a coating its a hard damn coating. Is it the same mls HG you use?

It may not be so hard under high pressure and high temperature. It's definitely not there for asthetic reasons. :) I have never sprayed anything on it, and I've run them to 30 psi and ~55 lbs/min. With normal head and block finishies. With regular metal gaskets like Cometics, you need a special finish (extra smooth, finish RA of 30 or less IIRC) to get a good seal, and most poeple use a copper spray or similar on them, and they don't have the black BS you see on the Mitsu piece.

Wait, so with a Cometic gasket you need to use copper spray and machine it to that special smoothness, but you dont need the spray or special finish on the oem metal hg? Can the oem one take as much boost? Where did you get it and for how much?

I have read people boosting 35 psi on this metal head gasket. I paid $106 for the head gasket shipped to my house. I am at my moms house tonight but when i go home i can give you the website because i cannot remember it off hand lol, unless somebody like kevin has a better place to get it cheaper ;). I got it in 3 days standard shipping, off of a DSM website!!!
Yes with cometic you need a special surface.

Cometics are 95-105 from SBR depending on whether you want the normal one or the high boost one. 35 PSI is the very most I would run, so that would be fine. Your gasket doesnt need the extra machining though? Would you happen to remember what brand it is?

Its basically a oem HG, I took the mitsubishi part# and called the local dealer but they wanted crazy!!! money for it. And no this gasket i baught has a marjin for error!! so you do not need a special surface.

F in A Cotton! ;)
Thanks man, I think I will actually get that one. Even though its like $10 more than the low boost Cometic, I wont have to spend all the money to get the special surface. Thanks...
