I'm looking for a pictiure, or a diagram, or instructions for checking and/or replacing the front strut mount in my 99 malibu. I've done the rear ones. If it's similiar to those I guess I'm OK. Anyone have any advice to offer? Thanks. Marticott.

If the front springs don't bind when turning the steering wheel lock to lock, then usually the mounts are ok. (If there is binding, you will hear a "boing" sound when doing this.) These are not as easy to chenge as rear mounts as ther is considerably more tension on the front springs. They can really hurt you...

if your going to attemp the front struts go to your local parts store and see if they rent a proper strut compressor, then all you do is compress it, undo the bolt decompress it, remove old bearing and plate, replace with new one , recompress add bolt and your good to go.

Don't forget an alignment.

I had Midas help me with the last set that I replaced. I removed the entire assembly, brought it to Midas with my new Auto Zone replacement and had them compress the coil and do the installation. They charged me a whopping $10.00 per stut. Never will I try to compress my springs again....I'll look up the Midas guy.
