I literally had a stick the width of the road on base break on my roof, bloody wind blew it off, BUT it only left a small mark which will polish out, and ok guys, just so I can whip the crapper out of pete (in 7 yrs when I can afford it!) I wanna know how much Im looking at to turbo my D16 in my lil CRXion. Ta bye.

for a decent package your looking at around 5 - 6K minimum.

Hunt around before you go to croydon - see what is available. As I recollect Worshp found a turbo kit for his Si CRX extremely cheaply (where the hell is Worshp anyway? I wan't to see if the CRX got some go to go with the show).
I'm going to wing this, but you'll need turbo/wastegate (if not internally wastegated turbo), bigger injectors, intercooler and plumbing, dump-pipe and exhaust, possibly the engine refreshed if it is getting on and maybe a piggyback 'puter. I'd ask around a few places, not just croydon. I think BD4s do turbo kits too as do a number of places. It's cheaper to rebuild a turbo than buy a new one - my Rayjay in the back room (off one of my 1st gen Civics) was a 600 buck rebuild.
Just remember that unless you decompress the motor, boost will be limited to 6-7 psi tops. Good for 160-170bhp I think. Adding a decompression plate will allow you to increase boost. Can I suggest you talk to Eric (CWCTB) on the fourth gen (88-91) forums here? He swapped a ZC into his USDM Si Civic and then added turbo.
My guess is about 5.5K.
About the same as a B16A transplant as most of that will go in labour. Getting a B16A front-cut isn't a straight swap as the EF8 CRX/EF9 Civic SiR engine bay is very different in mounts, crossmembers, gearbox, driveshafts etc.
You will need engine mounts from the US to do it properly for an engineers certificate. Place and Hasbro solid eurothane mounts (the best to get) are approx 600 US a set as I recollect. Integra driveshafts will be needed if you don't have the SiR ones, as will an aftermarket ECU if you don't have the factory one. New exhaust should be 600-1000 bucks depending on if you want headers or not.
A EF8/9 front cut will set you back approx 2000-2500 (if you can find one). I was talking to a guy at the Parramatta Honda spare parts place (Trivett?) and he said a friend did the B16A swap in, but he spent a fortune on it getting it right (having the speedo/tacho pod helps).
Cheers
Pete
(BTW - by the time you have it sorted, the SiR may just be a little quicker :p )

Well I know where at least one complete frount cut from an EF9 is over here. Your probobly looking at about 1,500 to 2,000 buy the time its landed in Aussie. Depends on what shipping and customs charges are.
But I think the Turbo is possible the best way to go.
The stock ECU should handle about 6psi with out any trouble.
But you will need to freashen things like rings etc before you do it.
I know a few ppl who have done it on an old engine its just ended up blowing smoke.
Cost really depends on how much work you can do yourself.
I have no idea where Worshp has buggered off to.
Either he got bored of the forums, he got a new women, or his situation at work changed, since thats the only internet access he has.
Ill shoot him an email and see whats hes up to.

Yeah - rings and head - and while you're at it might as well do the bearings :)
Moppie - I've seen just one EF8 front cut over here (and it was missing the bonnet) - no EF9s. Cost and shipping is one thing, but this country charges a fortune in import duties. I think there are a few XSi 'teg cuts areound - Chuck used a XSi B16A in his 3G - I can't remember if he said it was a cut or not.
Cool if you can contact Worshp - damn that CRX was getting better and better :)

OK....... You want to be quicker than pete.......hmmm.........new spark plugs should do it...mahhahehhehe.....hehehe.....hehe.....he...... .aahmm.
Yes, mine was a XSi front cut. Each to his own BUT if I were to do it all again..........I would do a b20z from a CRV!!!!!! You'd need a front cut from say a XSi and then the short motor from a CRV.
This is a pet of mine and I'll keep you updated on it's progress but it will be a M-O-N-S-T-E-R !!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you do a turbo and do it right, it will be a more tractable setup than a B16 conversion. You'll be able to use the torque more often than the power of a VTEC. I rarely turn my VTEC on when just driving around.
If your after a B16 look at getting one over from ENZED (a friend of mine just did this for his prelude) but be aware of the lack of warranty issue.
You don't have to spend $1500 on Place or Hasport mounts as an engineer will pass welded in front cut mounts that are FREE with a front cut.
Choose your path wisely grasshopper!!!!!!!!

or you could always do the type R conversion...that my cousin's friend did :p
chucky...I'm sure you don't let the vtec cut in, for fear of going deaf, or losing parts of your car :p

I'm always nervous of welded in mounts (yeah, I know yours are Chuck).
Still, I guess it comes down to how much you want to do yourself (wanna make me an exhaust?) ;)
I agree on the torque issue - it really what lets the B16A down - I'd go a non-VTEC B18 with turbo if I was building personally - a nice combo of the right weight for the engine bay and a good package that responds well to a turbo.
But seeing as SiRs didn't come out with the B18.... :D

The problem with the place or hasport kits for 3 gens is that they rely on only three mounts  That and the rediculous price once you get them here
B20 weighs 4.5 kgs more than a B18!!!!! Even a weight monger like me can put up with that.............I suppose :D

That's why he doesn't engage VTEC much. Do you know how much his controller weighs?

throw out the POS shit it has in it....throw a B18C in to start with......and work from there.....best investment you could ever do....no point with a turbo kit unless the motor is built for it......its like pulling the pin on a grenade and not knowing when its going to go off.....spend some money replace pistons with forged JE items.....fit ARP rod bolts and head studs, copper head gasket with special sealing stuff.......then custom exhaust manifold......T28 turbo off an RB20....... and voila =]
rest you can work out...

HMMM welded mounts are stronger than standard if done correctly...standard mounts are spot welded and glued....my mounts are all stitch, plug and seam welded....it has to tear the chassis rail to rip the mount off.....and I havent even moved it....and my motor puts out 3x as much torque as your silly vtec motors!!! LOL and out of a 4 cyl...
around 350-360Nm =]

Chuck Chuck Chuck,
So far you are ahead!!! But just wait, I am going to keep making excuses until I beat you!!! LOL...nah well I am going to set my rear suspension up a lot better than now....Need weight over the front wheels...!!!
Hmmm VTEC = VERY-LITTLE TORQUE Et C
hehehe
=]
I dont need to wear my main bearings out to produce torque I just punch it at 3K rpm and warp speed here I come!!! LOL.....
I call it usable torque!!!!
HEHEH
Just shit stirren ya champ, you know I love the VTEC sound =]]]] Wild cams own me...i want some 258 durations!!!! LOL...
