Hi,

The auto transimission of my 02 Focus wagon seems something is not normal when the engineer is cold.

In cold morning, after start the car, if it is not idle long enough (waiting the RPM drop below 1000), when I shift to R, I can feel the big CLUNK, just like someone is pulling the car from outside. after, every thing back to normal. Also I don't have this problem when shift direct from P to D.

I took my car to the dealer to check, they said they can't reproduce the problem as the weather is not cold enough.

The car is currently close to 37k miles, the transimmsion fluid was changed about 1 years ago.

Any suggestion is appreciate.

change the fluid, but the clunk is normal, your droping it into a gear in high-idle which is causing it to 'slam' into gear, wait for it to idle down and see if it still happens. and warm up for atleast 5-10 min

Thanks Josh.
Yes, the CLUNK is minor if I idle my baby a little bit longer, after the RPM drop below 1000, I wouldn't feel the CLUNK...Your reply make me feel much better.

Something still confuse me, even in high RPM ( around 1200 ~1400 RMP), i wouldn't feel CLUNK when switch from P direct to D, but CLUNK from P to R. Why it is different? I have no knowlodge about transmission. :-)
