1992 MGM, step-daughters car, died on her a couple of nights ago. Someone brought her home and I went to get the car. It started but took some time doing it. I got it home and replaced the plugs. It started a lot easier so I drove it a few miles. When I got back home, I killed it and started it back up. To start it I had to push the accelator all the way to the floor and hold it there and crank a lot longer then I like to. It started but of course was flooded. Do you think this might be a coil pack? How do I check the coil pack to see if it is working properly?
Thanks for any help.

Its not the coil pack. It happened to me a few years back on my '00. The dealer replaced the Throttle Positioning Sensor and it was fine. Had I known it was that easy I would have done it myself. Ended up running about $200 at the dealer.

Could also be a bad Idle Air Control Valve on the throttle body.
Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls engine idle speeds, both cold and warm engine conditions.
OPERATION
The valve allows a monitored amount of air to pass around the throttle plate to control the following:
Fast idle for cold engine start-up
Idle dashpot
Start-up without pumping the accelerator pedal
Idle speed increase for an overheat condition
Engine idle load correction

Thanks for the replies. Now how do I determine which one it is or do I just replace both of them?

I personally would try the valve first. Make sure the port under the valve where it mounts is free of crud.

Thanks, Stevo. I will try this in a few days when I can get my stepdaughter to leave the car here.
