BMW Vanos System

i recently installed a cylinder head on a 98 328is. i have one problem with the check engine light coming on while driving. the code is for the vanos system. more than likely i don't have the system adjusted properly. how can i properly adjust the system to keep the check engine light off?

I'm not that familiar with how the solenoids actually work but it seems to me they shouldn't really chatter during operation?
