Isaac Hayes Quits 'South Park'
Mar 13, 4:33 PM EST

The Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem — and he's cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians."

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out.

Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

its a stupid religion and its beliefs are just crazy. Its about making money. It gives a little bit to everyone who wants to believe in a religion. There is a southpark episode called "Trapped in the closest" download it and watch it sometime. Or it should be on comedy central alot now because of this. It explains what it really is.

By definition: a controversial belief system developed by L. Ron Hubbard, based on a person being an immortal spiritual being whose survival depends on him/herself and his/her attainment of brotherhood with others and the universe

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology

Some central beliefs of Scientology:

- A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.
- The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.
- A person is basically good, but becomes "aberrated" by moments of pain and unconsciousness in his life.
- What is true for you is what you have observed yourself. No beliefs should be forced as "true" on anyone. Thus, the tenets of Scientology are expected to be tested and seen to either be true, or not, by Scientology practitioners.

Also, Isaac Hayes, for playing a ladies' man you don't have much of a ball sack. What a little pussy.

Looks to me like "Scientology" is simply the belief in scientific reincarnation, the fact that energy never dies but keeps on going from organism to organism.

Scientology was created in the 1950’s by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. The scientologists believe that Earth was populated 75 million years ago by beings from planets in neighboring galaxies. These beings were the overpopulation of these neighboring planets and subsequently exterminated using H-bombs. This event perpetrated by a being known as Xenu is essentially the root cause of all the bad in the world.
Scientology tells us that we are part of a universe that consists of matter, energy, space, and time. In an alternate, yet related universe exist thought and spirituality. Thought and spirituality are known as Theta, which created the physical universe of matter, energy, space, and time. Theta has been inhabiting many different creatures throughout time. It first inhabited clams then guided them through the process of evolution to become humans, known as Thetans. Each Thetan has been “polluted” by all the negative things that have happened to them, originating with the H-bombs 75 million years ago. These pollutants limit the Thetans ability to think clearly and also hinders there creativity.
By identifying each specific traumatic event it is possible for the Thetan to cleanse themselves of the pollution, through a process known as auditing. As the Thetan progresses through the levels of auditing they come closer to the natural form of Theta, which is all powerful. The service of auditing is not free however and can cost the Thetan $300,000-$500,000 to achieve Operating Thetan III. It is at this level that the Thetan is informed of the actions of Xenu. Scientologists believe that they are not properly prepared to audit this information before reaching this level and if they receive this information early they may suffer disease and in some cases even death. They believe that once they have properly audited this information they then will have super human abilities to manipulate matter, energy, space, and even time.
During the course of my research I have found that scientology has got to be one of the craziest belief systems ever. It completely astounds me that someone could possibly hear this and think “Yep that sounds about right.” It is also interesting to note that the inventor of this “religion” was quoted in the 1940’s as saying “Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion.” Less than a decade latter he did just that.

WTF? Dianetics? "Xenu" and "Thetans"? Sounds like fantasy characters from "Battlefield Earth". Next we'll be seeing Tom Cruise and John Travolta wearing aluminum foil on their heads so the aliens can't fuck with their minds.

I never thought Isaac to be the hypocritical type. Then again ,i didn't think Barry Bonds was stupid enough to use the "race" issue.

I think the theory that he was put up to it holds a lot of water.

Isaac Hayes is a dumbshit. He gets offended by the writers bashing some fake ass religion, when after how many years of vulgar language and completely obscene behaviors and actions he finally comes out and says theres something wrong with this show because it makes fun of something he believes in. Douche, get a fucking life. You will be easily replaced.

South Park is not going downhill, it is still funny as hell every time I watch it. Life will go on without Isaac.

Agreed.

I love how people think it's ok to dish out shit to or against others who don't have the same beliefs, but you step on their toes, you better watch out, they might start crying and trying to drag out the race/religion/whatever card :disappoin
