It's not an Iwata, but....

I finally got a REAL airbrush today.... got a good deal on a Paasche VL full set (all 3 needles, color caps, bottles, etc..) unopened, marked down from 115 to 80, then 25% off, so I got it for 60. Now I just need a compressor. I am looking at the 2 Gallon Campbell at Wallyworld and the moisture trap ("dry air") unit for that....

now just need to finish setting up my work area and practice on the old glue bomb vicky that I don't care about.. heh

I love my VL. No reason for an Iwata, in my estimation. A VL is a great all purpose airbrush. Congrats on your addition to the disease.

I've had my VL for 30 years, still works great. Take care of it and it will serve you well... - Mark

Sorry to hijack your thread for a second but, I just borrowed an airbrush from my pops. I have never used one before but I am gonna learn how. It is an Aztek airbrush. I am not sure of the model. but he had two tips for it several different size media cups and the air hose. My question: Has anyone used ones of these? Is it a decent one? from doing a little searching on Google it appears that Testors makes them. I could not find a pic of the exact one that I have. I think the one I got my hads on is an older model. though it takes the same tips ans their current model double action airbrushes. Whats the difference between single and double action? Anyway sorry for the tread hijack again. Any feedback would be appreciated!

P.S. I already have a large air compressor to use. I just need to pick up a dryer to put in the line

I'll chime in on the Paasche fanbase, since the VL my dad and I share has been around since approx. the Carter administration.

I love the weight of the Paasche, it helps for steadying your hand for fine work, and I've always preferred it to the Aztek A470 I picked up on a wild hair. I've seen some Iwatas and Badgers that were tempting, but I've yet to have a good reason to replace my sturdy, reliable, easy to clean, and ever-adjustable Paasche.

And for primers, flats, and Pactra lexan paints, gotta love my old single action Paasche. So long as you clean the needle, you can't kill that damn thing.

Only people that never used an Iwata can say that. Iwata are the best :D I loved my Badger Anthem, but now I'm REALLY loving my Iwata :D

Anyway, the VL is a nice one too. 115$ might be overkill price, but for 60$ it's ok.

Have fun with your airbrush.

I received an Iwata HP-C a few years ago as a gift after previously using a Paasche VL for more than 20 years. The Iwata definitely performs better (finer spray and uses less paint to get the job done), but I'll always keep a VL on hand for as long as I use airbrushes. It's kind of my all-purpose reliable workhorse. I use the Iwata for exterior finishes and the VL for everything else.

Iwata makes the the high end airbrushes for Tamiya, anyone have one of them? How does it compare to the regular Iwata? - Mark
