I have trouble starting my 97 blazer w102000mi.:uhoh: It seems i have to turn key and wait 2-3seconds before cranking . Does this sound like a fuel pump relay? n e info is greatly apresheated

Sounds like its taking awhile for the fuel presure to build up, maybe a leak in the system. I would first start by checking fuel presure at the valve in the engine compartment for proper presure and leak down.

yeah I dont know but it shouldn't be that way. The pressure could be not building quick enough as said before though.

If it is a short 2-3 seconds do not worry about it.
If it is a long 2-3 seconds check it out.
But when they get old and slow like me it just takes them a while longer to get fired up on a cold start up. :grinyes:

Sounds like a fuel pump relay. If the pump doesn't cycle as soon as you turn the key, then most likly the relay. Check to make sure the relay is getting power as soon as you turn your key. Probe the connectors for current. If nothing is there, then you have to trace your wiring. If its getting juice, a new relay will most likly be needed. The relay is not energizing the pump, its recieving its source from the oil pressure sensor/switch, thats why its taking a few seconds for the pump to turn on, as the engine needs to build oil pressure to trigger the sensor to complete the circut.

Sounds like a bad Ignition switch to me. Do your cluster lights lite up when you turn the key to the on position. (check engine, Brake, abs) if they don't lite up then it's the old bad 97' Ignition switch trick....
Keep us posted.

As been posted it can be several things or just 2-3 seconds is not very long.
Have you put a stop watch on it? Or done the old 1000 and 1 and 1000 and 2 count down?
On a cold start up you have to give the fuel pump a little time to build up fuel pressure.
Any delay on dash light coming on?
Has it always done it or is it getting slower as it goes along?
Is the delay in the fuel pump relay triping on or the fuel pump starting after the relay trips on or does it just take 2-3 seconds for the fuel pump to build up full pressure?

Also at a 100K it is about time for a good tune up.
How is the plugs and filters?
Give us a little more info and all of us can point you in the right direction.

Now takes up to 20 secs for pump to prime and no door chime or dash lights? What the hell is going onhere .Starting to lean toward the damn ignition switch.Gunna research some stuff on here. GOOD OL' 1997 IGNITION SWITCH

If no dash light the old ign switch is a good suspect.
Get out the volt and ohm meter and test it out.
It is not unusal for the fuel pump to take a little time to primre up to full pressure on a cold start or setting over night.
But you should have instant bright dash lights.
Get us know how it goes.

This all ties in with what is going on with my wife's 97 Jimmy. First problem with mine though was stalling intermittently with no warning. I'm thinking my trouble will be the switch as well. I can now turn key to on position and get no dash lights, or door buzzer at all. When lights do come on, it starts and runs fine. This Jimmy has 104K mi on it, and our mechanic had told me he thought it would be good for a lot more miles. This has my wife paranoid about driving it though. Am I on the right track? I've replaced the feul filter and cleaned throttle body with out improvement. :banghead:

Welcome on your first post AF.
On your problem it would be better to start a new post and give all of the info you have.
Be sure to give engine and trans and year make and mileage and model and a good discription of what it is doing or not doing and what all you have done on it.
And the best place to post is go to GMC forum and then go to jimmiy forum/section.
That one is for Jimmy's Good luck
