How do I remove my door buzzer?

How do I remove the buzzer/beeper that goes off when I open my door with my key in the ignition? I personally find it to be more of a nuisance than a help.

just put a piece of tape to hold the little "L" shaped thingy back so when the door opens it doesnt go off, altho doing this your dome light wont come on either.

wouldnt one of those chiltons manuals tell you which wire makes the buzzer go off? find that wire, and snip it...

I fixed mine today..

Remove the fuse panel nuts (2)
I think there was a screw also.

There is a grey box about 1"x2"x3" connected to the back of the fuse panel. At the bottom of this grey box is a plug with about 8 or so wires in it. Unplug this cable.

Voila! No more "beep beep beep"

Apparently a little more to it than this.. According to my service manual, the grey box is the ICU which controls the intermittant wipers and the hazard/turn signals.

After disconnecting the grey box (ICU), there is a clip on the short sides that holds it on. Unclip this grey box. On the ICU, there is 2 clips on each of the long sides. Use a flat screwdriver to push these clips.. Try not to break them or you will have to use some black tape to hold it together later.

Once you have the ICU open, you will see there is a circuit board, and on the top right corner is a piezo tweeter. Pull the circuit board from the housing and remove the piezo tweeter using a soldering iron. (it is the round black plastic thing about 1cm in diameter by 1cm tall, with a hole in the top) If you just want the beeper to be quieter, I suggest a little piece of tape over the hole. I chose to remove it alltogether.

Put the whole thing back together and plug the ICU back into the fuse panel and reconnect the wire to the ICU.

Now your hazards and wipers should still work, however you will not have that annoying beeper any longer.
This fix took about 25 minutes but I had to figure out how it all came apart.

Did anyone read my lengthy description or did anyone even care?

Yes chzdhippt, I read your post; I have yet to be able to reply, thanks to a flaky net connection, due in full to the horrid weather here in Texas. Thank you, and all others, for the information. Now, as soon as I tackle the project, I shall be able to listen to my radio outside of my car without that awful beeping noise.

Anytime I wanna have my doors open so I can hear the tunes or while I'm cleaning the car or whatever, I just pull the "L" shaped switch on the door jam back and stick a dime in it to hold it in place.

But this is a much more permanent solution, and could easily be performed by just about everyone. It was very simple.
