Eclipse = quiet?

Hmm okay,

I was driving around last night, and I was thinking about the sound my muffler makes. It has a low rumble to it, but there's nothing on the car. It's completely stock (performance wise), yet it sounds like it has an upgraded exhaust system of some sort. My question is, did the Eclipse come out of the factory as a quiet car? Or did it always have a rumbling sound. It could be because of the age of my car, but I don't know, so I'd love to hear your guys' input.

My car is a '95 GST
2nd engine 150,000 km

Now, uh, don't mind the horrible lighting issues and shaky camera work, haha. It was a half hour slap-job that me and two other friends put together for my Computer Production Tech class. I'll be out in the city making a full length racing sequence with my buddie's 240sx this weekend, but for now, this is the demo we've made.

I hope some of you guys like or at least don't mind Initial D, as it was kind of a large influence on this video. I'm an Asian teen, give me a break :)

Mine does the same thing and I'm only at 105,000 miles. I think maybe our exhausts are starting to wear out with age giving them that low tone rumble. lol

Every stock eclipse I've heard does have a deeper sound than most cars. or your muffler could be ruster on the inside. You should hear my car with a straight through exhaust!!

All my friends tell me my car sounds meaner than it should for a dinky 4 cyl., and I agree. The car does seem to have more of a rumble than most other cars with similar engines. It only has 69k on it, and has been garaged the last 2 winters for the most part, so the exhaust isn't in too bad of shape.

Yea and once you upgrade, you get a nice deep tone that sounds bad ass. I love mine, whenever I brought it to school, I would get compliments on the sound all the time.

I always thought my engine was really loud. Compared to many other cars, even other talons/eclipses, my engine has always been louder. I've had mine and another 420a next to me with hoods opened and revved, and mine was louder. This was early in modding too. Now, it's just louder. I never understood why. I can't wait to get the head swap done with some nice cams... it'll sound like a beast.

It's awesome though that I can be walking downtown going to school or something and hear a car, turn around, and it's an eclipse/talon.

Mikes car actually got quieter with the 3" exhaust because his old one was straight through crusty-welded stock shit. It does have a nice low rumble, I think that just comes with the engine. He had to drive it open downpipe for a while because the seller said the dp was a cat delete when it really wasnt. Man, that is loud as hell. Just at a cruising speed you had to yell to each other to be heard. We were cruising once and there was this group of people out walking on the street. As we approached, they were looking up in the air... for an airplane. You should have seen the looks on their faces when they saw it was us. :lol:

Honestly guys...no joke...I am being so deadly serious - but my 2002 Chevrolet Cavlalier sounds like its a V8. I have had the biggest V8 lover guys and the biggest rednecks in my car and when I floor it they always say "Was that your car?"

The only thing done to the Cool Cavy is an Ebay intake. Everyone thinks I got a hole in the exhaust or that the exhaust ends at the downpipe. I dont know why The Cool Cavy is so load but it really is.

I swear to god this happened, but I sitting at a redlight and this Mach 1 (Mustang) tried to cut in front of me, because he didnt want to wait in line. But I was changing the radio staion so i didnt see him pull up next to me (lining up between me and the car in front -so he can cut in). So the light turned green and I looked up and I see him trying to cut in, (I hate when people do that shit), so I just floor it, and I open up all 125 raging horsies (lol-but it was seriously loud) and I look over as I cut him off so he wont cut in from me, and I see him crank his head right around because he didnt know where that sound was coming from.

Its a pretty cool story.

My car sounds the same, and it only has 52k miles. I always set off car alarms in parking garages, lol. Especially when you let off the throttle it has a VERY loud low rumble that echoes throughout the garage. And it has absolutely nothing done to the exhaust. But the turbo acts as a resonator, lowering the pitch.

I know what you guys mean now, it does have a pretty good rumble. Driving today was pretty nice, it did have a nice deep tone.

When i got my talon it was bone stock!!! The stock exhaust sucked ass!!! When i put the 3 inch turbo back exhaust on it, it came alive!!!! Sounds mean as hell now. But your does sound pretty good for being stock!!
