---rant about saleen---
ive had my saleen for awhile and im starting to get a little unnerved at the amount of 'clones' out there. i spend all the $$ for a real saleen and some shmuck with a v6 buys a replica body kit and replica wheels now for dirt cheap and slaps the saleen stickers on his car and everything unique about mine is just shot. every mustang owner and his mom has the saleen-style wheels now and the first thing i always hear when someone comes up to talk to me is 'nice car..is it real?' its like...if you had a viper, someone wouldnt ask if it was real, they would just gawk at it.

---the topic---
so anyway, this had me thinking of a different project:
a sonic blue 2003 cobra coupe or 02-04 yellow z06. the vette would obviously cost me more money both to buy the car and modd it how i would want it so the cobra is a little more appealing in that aspect. BUT, when it would be all said and done i think the vette would be more fun. i already have pretty much everything picked out:

03 cobra $25-27k - mm coilovers, billetflow 2.76 upper, 4# lower, cams, intake, full bassani exhaust, 18" afs 03 wheels in chrome - ~550rwhp?

02 z06 $32-35k - mti 408 stroker ($11k motor alone!) 550rwhp on motor, kooks headers, corsa exhaust, HRE 19" 547 wheels, carvaggio rear spoiler + anywhere between 150-250shot of nitrous

what would you have more fun in?

Id definately say the Vette over the Saleen... Don't get me wrong I love the Saleen mustangs, and what JC does with them cosmetically and technically, but I agree with what you say...too many ppl have the saleen body-kit on their V6 stangs...

But the Z06 is a better engineered, machine designed to compete with exotics...The Stang is nice, but its got a different idea in mind

That is a question I mill over in my mind all the time to be honest. I guess realistically I would go for the cobra because the straight line is where its at, its cheaper to buy and cheaper to modify. The vette is no slouch though and I certainly love them.

Vette b/c it does straight and turns. Cobra falls short on handling and interior in my mind and doesnt really show your status as much as a Vette would

thats why i dont like stangs in the first place, their not bad cars but their just so freakin played out, everywhere i go i see mustang after mustang and i get so tired of it.

so id say vette, looks better, faster, more refined.

Here are my choices by topic.

sleeper: Cobra (you can buy the emblems and body kit so most people wouldn't know)
handling: ZO6 (this is just a given)
looks: ZO6 (the Corvette is just sexy)
straight line: Cobra (I think mod for mod the Cobra does better here)
top speed: ZO6 (even with the computer shut off disabled I don't think the Cobra can go over 170)
bells and whistles: Cobra (back seat, a nice sound system, and a little more room I think)
Saturday night: ZO6 (a Corvette with a mean exhaust will draw attention especially from the females :grinyes:)
daily driver: ZO6 (the supercharger guzzles up more gas as is)

The pick?

I'd have to go with the ZO6. If it had to be used as a daily driver I don't think it'd be as bad as the Cobra. Also, I'd probably have more fun and get more attention on Friday and Saturday nights with a loud ZO6 that would scream past 99% of the cars that were out.

i have to agree with alot of the comments posted although i think even though the cobra might be cheaper to get faster initially, in the long run the zo6 would have more potential having the larger displacement. as far as anemities go as well: the cobra may have back seats but the corvette i think is more refined, and the stereo, heads up display, comfort of seats, and seating placement are nicer in the vette.

what do you guys think of the 99 model year s351 (only year made..they made 50 of them) 500hp 500tq, 6spd, built rear, brake kit, recaro leather, etc. i think that might be the only saleen id wanna have. you cant faleen a 351 engine unless you put some serious $$ behind it.

Why does the stupid ZO6 owners put heavy chrome wheels on their cars? Idiots. It's like they get the lightest Corvette they can and completely counteract that by getting heavy wheels.
