I am currently running a b16 in my 92hb. I was going to turbo it, but have been considering swapping out the block w/ a b20. i have been trying to find out how common this swap is, and what benefits it will have. my budget wont allow for a turbo this year if i do up all the b20 internals, so if i prep the motor for turbos with low compression pistons and such, will it throw down?
my end goal is 300 whp tops, but i am more interested in bringing up my torque numbers. i drive alot of mountain roads in the area i live, and maintaining an excellent handling vehicle is really important. I dont really care about 1/4 times, more interested in getting the most power while maintaing everyday drivability. I have a fear of understeer in FWD's and need a setup that can give me confidence when pulling out of a hard right corner and taking the motor to high revs. i hear alot about people pulling 500+whp out of similar set-ups and i cant possibly imagine that the thing could drive a wicked curvey road. any thought, opinions, of tech talk would be much appreciated. THANKS!!

hello ...the b20 sleeves are very weak ..i really wouldnt try a b20vtec turbo if i where you ...i run a b20vtec now and its always scary because the more i read on that motor i get afraid ..week sleeves the rod bolts are weak for high revs ...with turbo its going to be a nightmare ...because you have to tune your car alot so you wont have a bad a/f ..the heating issue ..i had a turbo B18b and you have to keep an eye on things alot ..but a all motor setup you dont much ..so with a b20vtec ill go all motor .. but building your b16 motor is cheaper and you can get some good power still .. a cheap but effective mod is take a dremel and a few polishing wheels and polish your ports on your head to almost mirror ..i think if i blow my motor ..ill just buy b18c1 .. install jdm ctr pistons and spoon or ctr cams since they are the same price ..and a good tune and thats it..but a b16 head with a b20Z block will work good just change the rod bolts please
