This thread is part of a joint venture (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=536593) with Klutz_100 and MPWR (no, we are not trading in cannabis!) so please check out their “topless” threads too! ( :naughty::icon16: yes Steve I stolen your kind phrase:) )

Well this is the Hasegawa 348, great firts impression whit a quetly detailed kit and some awesome PE grills and badges.

from the start some fitting test, all ok, some part need to be cleaned, not for sure at actual Tamiya level, at least this kit should have 15 years?

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/motoresecco.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/secco2.jpg

After primed all, I paint engine block with black alclad base followed to AlcladII Polished Alu. I cover that shiny color with Modelmaster Alu Metalizer due to the fact I need a "casted appeal" for the block. Buffed and sealed. Mufflers painted with Alclad Polished Alu over black. Covers painted in X8 over MM alu. Air duct with a mixed tone of 90% flat black+10% alu: I need a shade lighter than black.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/parti.jpg

So some turned parts: injectors (brass) , oil filter, pulleyes, alternator.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/turnedparts.jpg

In the following pict you can see some fuel rail drilling trought mill (I hope Mike or Mark aren't able to see how I lock the rod: I was too lazy for unmount rotating table :grinyes::evillol:)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/millingfuel.jpg

Injectors was glued with a bit of CA on the fuel rail (Tamy kind>no white smoke and holy dentist who give us stuff like microbrush :) )

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/iniett.jpg

just for reference rail dimension:

Some work on fuel connectors (Sakatsu) and line (brass rod)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/curva.jpg

Some spring flowers :) Sakatsu connectors was primed (Gunze Mr Hobby metal primer) and painted with transparent red and blue:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/tulipani.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/blu.jpg

Working steps for electrical cords:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/elettrico.jpg

Alternator turned and decaled (home printed) I had a trouble: I crop this little decals over the ink (sealed with TS) and water melt colors. Well it's 3mm diam, at naked eye it's ok: I noticed it by picts :)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/alternatore.jpg

Pulleye assy: I need to touch up or remake with elecrical tape the belt

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/pull2.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/pull.jpg

The air duct assembly is the most visible part in this engine: I tried to detail that with some home-maded decals for air mass sensor etc.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/436e5f27.jpg

Also air duct, like in the real car, was remaded with rod and a surgical tape wrapped around

Killer engine work Giovanni. You are really putting that mill and lathe to use. Although, I do question the way you fixtured the fuel rail. ;) Hey, if it doesnt need to be super precise, then whatever works. I call it being innovative.

Man I need to get my own mill.

Brilliant work Gio! The air filter and intake assembly looks spectacular. I love the bit with the medical tape.

I've been ondering for a while how good this kit is. I worry you've added it to my 'must aquire' list.

I'll be keeping an eye on the post for that box of chianti! :p

Thanks you all for the kind words, since we'd updated the TT thread, you'll find here some few detail of the 348 interiors. Don't forgot to check the TT (link below) to see the spectacular jobs of the other 2 mosquetiers :)

Well, few words regarding the guidelines: I skip the terribles Hasegawa interiors and I choose to use Fujimi 335 interiors, that're questly wrong for the 335 but perfect for the 348, also are vry crispy and full of details, I love expecially the vents, really well done. So far some picts: I used Vallejo acrylics and Hiro carpet material.

Fuji is the cream kind.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/fujivshase.jpg

doors panels: tamiya custom mixture ("light black"?) I do it with flat black, a bit of white (1/10) and a bit of clear blue (1/10) so I'll whashing whit black later.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/porta.jpg

Vents masked and sprayed with X18:

So since I finally decided to do the spider (not the TS) I need to do some works on seats which're different to leave free space for the capote (I guess): some refs of the real stuff:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/c4dfefc6.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/42ba58fd.jpg

so I start to work mine with stirene and mill, some kilos of putty and a lot of patience: :grinyes:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/6ef12429.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/8424cdfc.jpg

I add also some side reinforcement in the seat and back's pokets, maded trought 0.1mm stirene

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sep1.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sep.jpg

finished, cursed and primed :evillol::eek:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/4sedbianchi.jpg

also the headrest is really different: narrowed, fat and wit a whole different desig: I done with several thin layers of putty (normal, Tamy) than I cutted it and smoothed down.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/poggiatesta.jpg

At least I preshaded with marron the grooves and sprayed 4 layer of valleyo sand (opaque). You'll achieve a convincing leather appeal just polishing a bit with a tissue (thanks to my friend Ricky for this stunning tip)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sedilifiniti.jpg

05-14-2006, 05:02 PM
So I tried to imprrove the tech. I used on my 360CS's seats: decals as seam: I think it's a bit better, probably due to the sipmle line pattern and to some applications tip (work fast, firm, wet and w/out softeners)

I done with decals also back panel's lines and nuts.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/397e4f42.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/6c2aadc0.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/3a54ff0a.jpg

after cured I sprayed wit a couple hand of Gunze matt, than I polished seats with a soft clots. (once a time:evillol:)

How do you think if your precious pony is still burning and you can't find anestinguisher? I need one. Body with turned aluminium (I loved Mark's S7 stuff so I try to do something similar: I know I'm far millions light years from this master :naughty::smokin::evillol:) and hinges with cutted and folded metal sheet

Finally so far some (almost) finished interior pics:

A bit of update also from my side, well not an extended work like my TT partners :D

So far turned discs and caliper, milled from 335

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/disc2.jpg
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/disc1.jpg

Speacking of chassis I also done some job in front, creating the front booth, cutting out the hood and doing working hinges. I found Tamiya Light Curing Putty very reliable to extend and correct thin hood edges.

and, as well, something in 1/24 to put inside :D

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/scatola2.jpg

Final hinge's fitting test : need some adj.

Well is really simple: I do a scan of the open box (cutted corners) and print 24 times smaller on photo hi-weight paper with a Canon Pixma 6600 at 9600x2400 dpi, so the resolution is enough also for this small size, than I wrap around a little small block of expanded PVC (Forex) that's easy to work compared compact stirene :)
