right amount of parts for d15b?

ok im driving an std hatch and if you dont know how painful it is to have 4 gears and only 70hp, its like a kick in the nuts. well my clutch is about dead and i need to replace bearings in my tranny, which is going to cost well over prolly 400 bucks, so ive decided to just buy a d15b vtec, with tranny and ecu from my friends mom who works at a jap engine warehouse called makoto auto parts. she can get me one for about 2-300.

well my question is, for instalation, do i just need new hubs and axels since my std has i think only 23 splines? and could i just use si axels and hubs?

oh yeah and i know i have to convert to mpfi

thanks

You'll need the intermediate shaft as well. Other than that, a D is a D...

sorry to be dumb, but what part is the intermediate shaft? if i have the whole axle like this http://web.inetba.com/dss/images/RA39954000L2GREEN.gif is the intermediate shaft a part of this? or something else?

are you getting a cable trans? the d15b comes with a hydro but an intermediate shaft if a shaft that goes inbetween the driver side axel and the trans. b's have them. zc trans and i am pretty sure the d15b has them too

Yeah, picture it this way..your differential is all the way on the right side of the car....your axle goes into splines on the left side, the intermediate is the shaft that connects the cv axle and the trans, if you look under the car its held in with 1 bearing, and since your trans has different splines...so shall it... http://www.mirage-performance.com/sonata/Axles/axles003.jpg You can see here how the driver's side connects to it...

Youd need a cable tranny (too make it an easy swap)... Buy one from a 88-91 Civic/CRX Si or EX... It has a more performance oriented gear ratio... I dont think its possible to do a hydro D series tranny into a 4th gen without serious modifications... I know HASport has a kit that does a cable to hydro conversion for the B series, but I dont think it would work on a D series... Plus the fact that unless your getting LSD with it, theres really no benefits to going hydro... Atleast none that make up for the added price and aggravation of converting...

As for the swap heres my how-to on it:
http://www.efsource.net/tech/D15BHT/D15BVTECSwap.php

Its for a CRX Si, but give or take a few things (MPFI mainly) it should be the same or similar too yours...
And Im pretty sure youd need Si hubs aswell because of the spline issue...

damn, so ive got to buy another transmission with it? that sucks.

P28 OBD1 ECU (92-95 Civic EX/Si) $130
Rywire pre-OBD to OBD1 conversion harness $190
4 Wire O2 Sensor (92-95 Civic EX/Si) $60
and i noticed these 3 things, will i have to get a different ecu than what comes with the motor? and an obd conversion harness?

For the tranny, check with HASport, it may be possible to use their kit on the D series... Ive never heard of it being done... But I think the cost is about as much as a cable tranny... Course I do think thats with the mounts aswell, but will not work on any D series... I think all you need is the actuator part...

No, thats just what I used... The stock ECU is a P08, in that case you wont need a 4 wire O2, or the P28... But youll need some way to convert over to OBD1... You can get the Rywire OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness VTEC subharness, and dizzy conversion harness (for the $190), and just wire up MPFI yourself, or pay for the DX version that has it all converted to MPFI for you and the other harnesses you need... Its pretty expensive tho... I think its like $300+... Course its probably worth it, I hate wiring so thats the route Id take...

ok this swap is starting to get more complicated than doing a b16, ok if i pick this option from rywire, 88-91 CRX/Civic DX/STD to d16z6/d15b (OBD1 VTEC) $300.00 , will this mean that i have to have dpfi to mpfi already done? or with this, do i just not worry about converting it, drop in the new engine with the mpfi on it and hook this harness up to the engine and ecu and mpfi and the vtec and obd1 and stuff is ready to go? im confused.

The second one....They are going to convert your harness to mpfi and obd1, then give the subharness and all extra obd1 wires...The plug and play option sounds good for you too.

yeah the std kind makes swapping a bitch. i just went with a b. but get the engine trans and ecu. there are a couple ways of doing the swap but the cheap way is trade the trans for a si cable one. then sell the ecu and dizzy. pick up a obd0 and a chipping kit w/ a vtec basemap and turboedit 1 wire vtec. go to the jy and get a obd0 dizzy. and do teh mpfi swap yourself http://www.gutterslide.com/fourthgenhatch_mirror/mpfi.html with obd1 injectors i dont think you need a resister box. and there has been a bunch of info on the std axel i dont know what to believe but some say that the si axels dont work but the std axels do work with the si trans. get hte trans and pull the axel to see if it fits if it does you can cut the intial cost down but will probably want to upgrade the brakes later. does your car have ac if not then you will need a relay for the vtec

yea my car has ac. i think i will just do the 300 dollar harness thing with plug and play to make things easy since this is my frist swap, that way i get the swap and mpfi out of the way at the same time instead of having to do them seperate. has anyone ever sent in their harness to rywire before? how long does it take to get back? you guys dont know how much all this info helps, hopefully i can give back the knowledge some day.

I didnt send them my harness... Just ordered one from them... But it came in fast... Now dont quote me on this, but Im sure they already have plenty of them made up, so when u send in yours, they just send another thats already done too u... And then they do the modifications on yours and send it to the next person... But Ryan (of Rywire) is a good guy, Ive talked with him a few times on various forums, and always see him posting on various forums helping people out...

That could be an interesting experiment there...you should mark part of your harness somewhere with like a silver sharpie or something, on part of the shroud or a wire...just to see if it comes back...

lol yeah, i may have to buy another dx/std harness to send in because i have to drive my car until the day i do the swap so i dont have time to do that

send him a message and see if you can put a deposit and get it back when you send in the core
